Captain America is Reborn or something little late to the party myself but I've been thinking bout the two caps and I remembered the old cap had a vice. Nothing quite says all American hero than a nice corn cob pipe. It's interesting how jovially it makes the captain seem. Not what I'd expect from him. I'd expect the All American New York city boy who served in the second world war to smoke either a cigarette or nothing at all. The corn cob pipe would fit a little better if Steve Rodgers was from Oklahoma or Kentucky. I could never imagine cap puffing this after a skirmish with Baltroc the Leaper.

His arch nemesis the Red Skull however is pitch perfect with a long Cruela DeVille ciggarette. It highlights his European-ness, his villiany, and it looks odd perched on his deformed person. Strangley elegant, yet grotesque its the perfect design compliment for Cap's most well known foe.

Been going through my old posts and found an old gem I'd like to expound upon. Found more character pics I like of great marvel smokers. Captain America's future best pal Tony Stark smokes marlboro's especially when he drinks. High pressure life style, women coming and going sometime's you just got to kick back and unwind with a good smoke.

Few things more befit a position of power like an eye-patch, Ciagr, and grey streaks on the side of the head. The classic Nick Fury has the triple threat.

Super spy's don't only smoke cigars in the USSR they enjoy a nice pack of Kool as the dealy Balck Widow can attest. It makes sense that Russia's baddest agent doesn't give a crap about lung cancer. I'd totally by a pack of smokes called Balck Widow's if this pic was on the carton.

All supevillains should smoke they're bad guys it makes sense. Others look really cool due to their choice in smoke. Others look more petty.

Cigars are not only for the rich and powerful. Alpha Flight's Puck is known to enjoy an occasional cigar. Nothing wrong with a good Montescristo after a long day of fighting the Wendigo.

Grey Hulk agrees.

So does Canada's favorite son, Logan.

Or maybe a pipe is better post Wendigo fight?

Scientist love pipes makes them more scientifical I think .

Coming soon my own Super hero smoking art. Think Dr. Strange, Luke Cage, Iron-Fist, Green Arrow, Green Lantern John Stewart, and taking requests for the final couple smoking art doodles I'm working on. I in no way encourage smoking it's a horrible habit and I don't do it myself. Although I don't mind if fictional people do it.

6 reasons to enjoy Night at The Museum Battle of the Smithsonian

6. The production design on this film is superb. Everything looks crisp and old and glorious. I wasn't a fan of the first film and was hesitant to see this film but I'm glad I did because it was just good family fun. The films never really deliver on their full potential. You have the possibility to do some really suspenseful, dramatic, and cinematic things with the magical concept. instead we're played for light hearted simple laughs.
5. Hank Azaria was magnificent. His biceps were glorious and his voice really shines. He is such a tremendous actor who I wished had a bigger resume. Love him on the Simpsons, and in films like the Birdcage, and Run Fatboy Run.
4. His evil cronies were fun. I liked the Vader and Grouch cameos and I'll admit it's one of the reasons I actually went to see this film in theatres. Wish Napolean would've had more screen time.
3. Bill Hader is one of my favorite comedy actors of this new millennium he's splendid on SNL and he plays Custer in a very honest, innocent, and fun way. You feel almost bad fro him when you see him realize his place in history. The film is almost about his redemption in a way.
2. This little Gladiator Cowboy relationship was one of my favorite parts of the first film and I'd lobby for a spin-off with them.
1. Stiller keeps the ensemble cast in check and has a nice bit of chemistry with Amy Adams and the storybook ending worked fro me at the end. I liked the film more than I expected to and I think it's a decent family flick. Not the worst way to spend a couple of hours.

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE

X-Men Origins: Wolverine = waste of time

You'd think a Wolverine movie would be easy. Set up a bunch of cool action sequences put Weapon-x in them and watch bad guys get sliced and diced. Instead they adapted the weaker part of Wolverine's origin.

I didn't like the focus on Victor and James/Logan as brothers the dynamic doesn't work for me. It doesn't feel natural and the movie never really sells it. We never get to see brothers being brothers, instead we get guys fighting and killing stuff in lame pg-13 fashion. The new Sabretooth Liev Schrieber is pure genius. I wish we could go back and put him in over tyler mane's lumbering grunting Sabretooth from the original fox x-men film.

Ryan Reynolds is used far to little. Blob was better than I thought he would be but he didn't fit in the film and should've been in Last Stand instead. WillIam was atrocious and should please stick to singing.

Stryker was fantastic and he was a great heavy which is difficult to pull off in a film with two great badasses like Jackman and Schrieber. The special effects were atrocious for the budget of the film and I hated the wire jumping with Sabretooth and the lame long finger nails. The effects were problematic and I think all of the X-men films were better fx wise even horribly rushed x3 looks better than Origins. This film would have been better as an R with less mutants and focusing more on him fighting in the wars and losing friends and finding pathos and trauma that will later fuel his animal berserker rages.

I loved the casting of Taylor Kitsch as Gambit and I think he worked but it just didn't feel like it fit for the movie. Logan and Gambit's friendship seemed unnecessary and forced. I'd love to see a Gambit Wolverine buddy mutant action film or grindhouse style double feature. Gambit in an ocean style thieve-thriller, and Wolverine as a revenge gore-story.

I kind of like the way they teased at X-men First class would have liked better if they would have played Prof. X straight and explain that he got botox later in life or something. I loved Logan as a lumberjack most of all in the film.

The opening acting and plot-line in the 1800's is horrible. The climax of the film was craptastic and it's ironic that the first film of the summer was the worst of the summer.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Ugggh! What wasted opportunity. The Harry Potter series in my opinion has been grossly mishandled. The books should have been adapted as hour long tv shows or mini-series. maybe turning every chapter into an episode or or every half book into a movie or something to that effect.

I think that the film series started off well enough Sorcerer's Stone was faithful enough as was Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban added more style to the series which the following films carried brilliantly. I as very upset with the massive changes in Goblet of Fire and the Order of the Phoenix run time. This film also similarly flabbergasting story choices that I felt unnecessarily deviated from the awesome things that actually happen in the book.

The Half-Blood Prince is very much a companion piece for death;y Hallows and in that way it works well in book form i fail to see how the films will blend and tell the upcoming story. I was

disappointed in the film and the fact that the line I'm not a coward didn't make it into the film is a travesty. The special effects were the best they've ever been in the series and Horcruxes really seem less fascinating in the film than they seem in the book. The casting of Slughorn was fantastic and I look forward to the Deathly Hallows films an how they will be treated maybe they will justify this film.

Oh and you can't tell me Eric Bana wouldn't have made a better Fenrir Greyback.

DRAG ME TO HELL

Sam Raimi is back at his best. I hated Spiderman-3 loved Spider-man 2 and absolutely love Drag Me to Hell it's a rare experience when you realize you are going to love a film after only 15 minutes. Some movies that can elicit this are Easy Rider, Th Dark Knight,

Star Wars A New Hope, Hellboy, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Desperado, Kill Bill, Ghostbusters,

True Romance, The Running Man, the Goonies, Total Recall,

and Star Trek 11 to name a few. This film is one of those few simply for the way and style in which the DRAG ME TO HELL title card is shown. It feels so Grindhouse and cool. This film would fit in perfectly as a modern day Grindhouse it's strange how this film feels like a modern day period piece.

I am flabbergasted at the skill Raimi shows in turning mundane items like a handkerchief and an old ladies teeth and turning them into iconic horror props, pop-out scares, to gross, frightening, disturbing, and hilarious effects.

I would have loved to see the film with Ellen Page in th lead but I'm pleased with the product we recieved the acting on all fronts is superb.

The seance scene is great as is the graveyard sequence and opening teaser.

The film moves along pretty brickly and despite the satanic elements is actually a pretty okay family film for a liberal family. Justin Long for some reason is so loved by the audience that when his characters immortal soul is put in jeopardy the audience actively roots for the protagonists well deserved demise. Raimi should stick to these horror films for college k,ids and thriteen year olds and pass on the Spider-man job to someone with less skill in the horror field. Raimi is still a god of horror. Evil Dead 4 better be in the works.

I look forward to a series of these Drag me to Hell films and I can't wait for "Drag me 2 Hell" or "Drag me From Hell" or "Drag 3 to Hell" OHHH! TRADEMARK that quick.

Ghosts of Girlfriend's past

Ghosts of Girlfriend's Past is an odd addition to my summer movie picks. Much like yourself I figured this was a sappy chick flick, I was never more wrong.

My first taste of Ghosts of girlfriend's past came upon my fourth viewing of Star Trek. I was chatting with some of the movie theatre staff talking movies as i usually do. He mentioned in passing he got to see Ghosts of Girlfriend's Past while cleaning and that it was very unexpectedly funny. I replied "NO WAY".

He said "for real, it's actually not that much of a chick flick. it's kind of about a guy who is a real player and it has actually has good advice about relationships, Check it out."

I took his recommendation to heart and being the open minded cine-phile that I am. Checked it out a couple of days later after my fifth viewing of Star Trek and was pleasantly surprised. First off the script is very smart and witty. It successfully plays with all sorts of relationship, and christmas carol tropes.

McConnaughey gives a stellar performance his best since Tropic Thunder and Dazed and Confused.

Michael Douglas is also phenomenal as Uncle Wayne like he hasn't been in a long while. He has a real fun character to play that makes Gordon Gekko and "D-Fens" look tame.

The women in the film are also superb Garner is lovely as always along with Chalbert and the rest of the beautiful honeys.

The effects are good and the film is very enlightening for a single man and alot of the relationship advice is spot on and honest.

I highly recommend this film, gereat date film, and good to enjoy with the wife on a late night. There is plenty of eye candy for both sexes, plenty of honest humor for both sexes, and a lot to learn for both sexes. Ghosts of Girlfriend's Past is a chick flick with alot of heart and smart. It delivers a chick flick any dude can enjoy and not feel ashamed. Check it out.

GI JOE rise of Cobra

Gi JoE Rise of COBra

YO joE!!! the last video is what i'm used to thinking of when it comes to GI joe in film. I consider Stephen Sommers movies to be one of my film guilty pleasures. His films are cheesy, fun, over the top awesome. He has a real great talent for making films fun and light. It's a shame he wasn't involved in Mummy 3 which i have yet to watch but am not exactly thrilled about. I love Van Helsing even if it took a while for me to appreciate its ridiculous fun. Gi Joe is in the vain of Van Helsing and is set in the not to distant future. The special effects aren't quite as good as Van Helsing and are more along the lines of the Mummy Returns which are passable. The action is fun and the editing is tight and effective. The story is simple nano-mite briefcase is the macguffin and everyone is fighting for it. The casting with exception of Duke and General Hawk, is spot on.

For Duke I'd like to have seen Wahlberg or Di Caprio or Chris Pine and Hawk should have been Kurt Russell or the Swayze. I'd actually like to have seen alot more action movie stars in the film Fraser was a nice touch but they should've gone balls out gotten Stallone, Schwarznegger, Hugh Jackamn, Ben Affleck, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Sean William Scott, JCVD, Steven Seagal, AntonioBanderas, Johnny Depp, Clive Owen, Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Uma Thurman, Danny Trejo, Ving Rhames etc.

Cast to perfection however are Baroness and Scarlett who are sexy, seductive, and can actually through their tight leather outfits.

Joe Gordon Levitt of 500 days of summer and brick fame is spectacular and his turn in the film is very cool. I would have enjoyed it more if Cobra Commander would have had the bad-ass high pitched annoying voice. This movie is all eye candy and it may satisfy your sweet tooth or give you a tooth ache. It's a total popcorn flick far more effective than Transformers 2 or Terminator Salvation or even X-men Origins Wolverine.

It's interesting that this should come out the same summer as a Transformers film I'd actually like to see the directors switch films. I think Sommers would be a far better choice for the Robots in disguise as he is a master of bringing childlike funny with out offending or falling to deep into stereotype unless thats the film's style.

Meanwhile Michael Bay with his over-patriotic guns a blazing explosion heavy style seems a far more perfect fit for a GI JOE franchise. One beef I did find with the film is how they went a more globalized route for GI joe when I think the property should really be more America based seeing as how it is GI Joe: A real American Hero. All in all GI joe isn't a total waste of money its a good family film but in a summer jam packed with great family cinema i don't thin this should be at the top of your list. If you have seen all the current films this isn't a bad way to spend a couple of hors i recommend it overall.

ADVENTURELAND!!!

Let's get popping indy style with Mottola's latest film Adventureland. Adventureland feels like a worthy sequel to Apatow's Freaks and Geeks tv show which is also about being a teenager in the eighties. Adventureland focuses on a college grad with wanderlust trapped in ana amusement park job over the summer when he should be backpacking through Europe with his college friends. The film is most definitely a dramedy. Like most dramedy the cast is very much the star of the film. Hader and Wiig steal the movie as the odd amusement park owners and managers. They are strict but oh so understanding and seemingly the perfect bosses. Martin Starr gives an amazing performance as Joel the pipe smoking awkward literature nerd at the park. Kristen Stewart who I despised in Twillight truly delivers a complex and seductive performance as the love interest. She makes the audience fall in love with her. Her insecurity, naivete, music taste, and general 80's rocker chick style really sell her as a special girl. Eisenberg carries the film well and delivers a good standard coming of age film performance balancing comedy and real emotional pain. Ryan Reynolds also plays a park maintenance man with a alot more grace and coolness than you'd expect from the man who starred in Waiting. All around I love this film it is all heart with enough style to make it hollywood. I'm a big fan of Adventureland and I highly recommend it.

So I've been following the Kick-ass comics as you know and as a result I've been following the word on the Kick-ass movie and the buzz so far is that it is "teenage tarantino" TARANTINO! that is very high praise. I can see a bit of a Kill Bill Kick-ass vibe in this pic. I'd love to see Kick-ass versus the Bride vs. The Yakuza!!! j/k

Dave Lizewsky does kinda seem like it's a feasible Tarantino character.

Very catchy selling but it's hard to really get a good idea of a Millar property because he is so prone to extreme hyperbole. You can't judge Millar till you've read or seen the completed work all the way through. I like the casting thus far as reported by my favorite film news site. slashfilm.com I especially like the inclusion of Mc Lovin

one of my fav. actors of this current young hollywood set. I like Nic Cage and he has a great eye for good scripts but i don't see how he'll convincingly play the giant of a man/sniper in the comic book. We'll see what he can deliver. the girls have been cast to utter perfection and they look like they stepped of the page doey eyes and all!!!

I loved the wanted comic and i hated the wanted movie. I like the Kick-ass comic thus far even if it is a little meandering. The movie may play better with music and actually movement to the action and hardcore gore it is very promising. So that's how Millar comic2movie adaptation is going thus far. Tell me how you like this segment i may make it a recurring segment we will see.

BACK IN BLACK with star trek 2009

Im back, for the time being gonna try to blog more often and get around to y summer movie reviews. starting with this summer's speed racer....

STAR TREK!!!! Has completely totally and utterly rocked my sum

mer and life.

One of the greatest movies ever on my favorite's list. It had action, drama, suspense, comedy, great sci-fi, time travel, two spocks, and heart. It fires on al cylinders. I've given more money to this film than any film ever.

I've seen it in theaters 11 times and purchased tickets for it at least 20 times and then snuck into other stuff.

the movie just deserves my money for being so perfect. Chris Pine is a star i'd love to see him in an Indiana Jones flick he has so much charisma and talent.

The cast is phenomenal all around. Sulu, Chekov, and McCoy don't get enough story but hope fully next movie they'll focus on the bones, jim, spock trinity.

I especially loved Bana as Nero between his role in this and Funny People. He's the breakout actor this summer being the master of heavies and now soon releasing the time traveler's wife which i'm hyped for this is the summer of Bana. I'd love to see a viral of Nero saying "Spock!!! Panties!!!" I'm not the only one this summer who has gushed over this film, and I'm sure I won't be the last.

I apologize for the delayed absence. Financial woes have kept me from the comic shop, along with the beginning of the school year and simply trying to figure out my schedule. The only reason you've been seeing venture clips is because I automated them like a month ago. I have a lot to discuss. I have like 3 movie reviews left to type up, some graphic novel reviews of: the dark knight returns(didn't like it), the dark knight strikes again(liked it surprisingly), batman year one(loved it), superman: red son(liked it), and infinite crisis the hardcover edition(undecided as of now).

DETECTIVE COMICS #848 - I'm greatly enjoying the heart of Hush. Dini has a good handle on the character and it bothers me how much people hate Hush. He's not that bad of a villain.

TRINITY #14 - This series is kicking ass. I like the new characters they've added and I like the way they give the Multiverse more depth.

HOUSE OF MYSTERY #5 - I was going to drop it but I think a series like this needs twelve issues to figure out what it will be in the future.

EL DIABLO #1 (OF 6) - This looks promising.

FRINGE #1 (OF 6) - This is based on the tv show let's see if it's worth a crap.

JONAH HEX #35 - Pick it up.

GREEN LANTERN #34 - This is the book I'm most excited to read this week.

VENOM DARK ORIGIN #2 (OF 5) - First issue was good, don;t know if I like the characterization of Brock as a liar, but let's see how they elaborate on this theme.

TWELVE 1/2 - Ooh the Fiery Mask.

SECRET SIX #1 - I've read all the past Secret six since Villains United. I don;t know if this book will really be all that interesting but I'll give this issue a shot.

TOR #5 (OF 6) - Still haven;t read 1-4 but I will.

TITANS #4 - It seems like this book has taken forever to arrive.

Grover Cleveland's Presidential Time Machine. What a beautiful string of words?

Pick up Jonah Hex number 34

This is the first page of JONAH HEX #34. Which boldly tells of an attempt by Hex to quit bounty hunting and killing. To live a life of peace and tranquility. This story really defines Hex. It touches upon his relationship with his father, and shows the way Hex deals with women.

Watching Hex flirt and turn away some one who is kind to him for fear of losing them or being dragged into combat. Palmiotti and Gray have become masters at plotting these Hex stories and Mark Sparacio draws a beautiful comic.

He is especially good at drawing beautiful busty women. However, he does it with class and a sense of period. Despite the beauty of his women it never feels like he's exploiting them or being salacious.

Of course things go bad for Hex and his would be girlfriend.

Which allows Sparacio to show off his skill at drawing emotion. He really pulls great performances out of all the characters. This is quite possibly one of the best issues of the series.

Hex saves the day as per usual in his own special Hex way.

If you don't read this book I highly recommend it It's by far one of DC's most consistently good books and it's always one and done.

I wonder if Palmiotti and Gray's run will go down as an all time classic run?

DC UNIVERSE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT - I'm excited about this. I am a Meltzer fan. Not sure I totally understand the cover. Who is superman sharing a face with?

BLUE BEETLE #30 - I like this border opatrol story, it fits his characer and it can really go places.

REIGN IN HELL #2(OF 8) - If this issue sucks I'm dropping it.

WOLVERINE #68 - This book is great, I think it'll be a classic.

SKAAR SON OF HULK #3 - This is working for me.

FAMILY DYNAMIC #1(OF 3) - I'll give it a chance, is this original?

IMMORTAL IRON FIST #18 - Uh-oh. I don't like the look of that cover.

X-MEN LEGACY #215 - This book always ends strong and doesn't deliver, I'm going to drop it and save money.

FINAL CRISIS ROGUES REVENGE #2(OF 3) - I like this book but the plot to this. Making Inertia the new Kid Flash, and Johns's Legion of Three Worlds redeeming Superboy prime. It feels like Johns is recycling Ideas a bit.

STAR TREK YEAR FOUR ENTERPRISE EXPERIMENT #5 - Great book, strong art, good writing, and the story feels dense and rich.

JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #18 - Johns you are all over this week.

WOLVERINE FIRST CLASS #6 - Love this cover.

NEW AVENGERS #44 - Secret Invasion sucks. This issue promises some big reveal. I predict it'll be lame.

KICK ASS #4 - It seems like this book never comes out. Is it shipping late or on a bi-monthly schedule?

This is a new fixture I've just invented I call it.

I wish...

...that this was the current Fantastic Four.

This is probably my favorite what if story ever simply because it opens up so many story telling opportunities. I mean you consolidate the Spiderman villains, Wolverine's villains, Hulk's enemies, Ghost Rider's enemies and the Fantastic Fours. Imagine all the crazy villain team ups and teams you can do. Plus it would make the Fantastic Four the thing it was meant to be, be the rival to Justice League. Stan Lee says he invented the Fantastic Four because his boss told him to write a team book because JLA was selling well. This could be Marvels JLA forget the Avengers(Iron Man is a dick!).

If you haven't pick up this issue do so. This team works well because Ben Grimm approves of it. Heck if this were a real book I would make Grimm their dispatch guy, who manages their home, and makes sure they stay organized.

It's also interesting how these four fit with the old four. Wolverine has the toughness of the Thing, and the power level of Sue Storm. Spidey has sort of Johnny Storm's wise cracking, and Mr. Fantastic's trapping ability and fluidness thanks to his webs. The Hulk has things clobberin and monster aspects, with Reed Richard types of smarts. Ghost Rider has Johnny Storms flaming nature, and rebelliousness.

Track down this book it's worth every penny. Here's a little two page spalsh to entice you.

Oh and this is the last work of the much beloved Mike Wierengo who I'm sure you've been seeing around DC and Marvel as they have cleared up advertisement space to honor him.

Comic By Comic has a great post about celebing up the Marvel Universe. Check it out then return for my two cents.

I totallly agree with all of Rich's points, he's got the archetypes right and it's interesting that this really can't work on a total universe wide scale with DC like it could with marvel. Marvel comics has always had the aspect to its universe that there is a public at large and it may not fall in love with superheroes the way that they do in Metropolis.

The best example of using celbrity in superhero comics is Peter Milligan and Mike Allred's X-Statix. Which as I have said before is one of my favorite comic runs ever. This book really looks at the superhero life as more celebrity driven than heroic.

What no one ever talks about though is the celebrity associated with villainy. How would the world deal with some one like the Shocker or Rhino as a role model for troubled youth? Would Hank Pym go on the surreal life? Does America still root for Moon Knight after 9/11? Hasn't there also been some super hero story lines based around superhero paparazzi? Wow this post sucks I ended up rambling alot. Rich is a lot better than me.

6 reasons to LOVE Tropic Thunder

I saw a double feature of war movies this Sunday. Back to back Tropic Thunder and Star Wars The Clone Wars. I enjoyed them both so here are my thoughts.

TROPIC THUNDER!!!

6. Unconventional Casting - You've probably already heard about Tom Cruise being in the film. He is, and he is funny. I don't want to spoil it for you but Stiller really has a great eye for casting and this decision is inspired. Mathew McConaghey is in the flick also and he is funny as ever. His agent would fit perfectly in the world of HBO's Entourage. I'd love to see a Pecker Gold buddy agent flick.

5. Tugg "Tuggernuts" Speedman - Stiller's action movie hero would fit in perfectly with Derek Zoolander. Speedman isn't smart, but he looks awesome with shit blowing up behind him. Stiller spends half the flick acting like a mentally handicapped person. I don't really understand how people are offended by this. It's not done with negativity it is simply a little bit of politically incorrect comedy.

4. The Presentation - The film opens with a fake drink commercial starring one of the stars of the fake film in Tropic Thunder Alpa Chino. This fake advertisement is hilarious and surreal because for the length of it your not sure if this ridiculousness is actually real or not. It's then followed by fake trailers for Stiller, Black, and Downey Jr.'s characters. It's genius even though it looked a lot more realistic when Tarantino and Rodrigues did it in Grindhouse. Also this film succeeds where Pineapple Express failed it delivered fun unique interesting and large scale action and mixed it effectively with comedy.

3&2. Jeff Portnoy and Kirk Lazarus - The performance everyone talks about at the end of this movie is usually about Robert Downey Jr.'s awesome performance. In fact, my favorite line in the film comes from Downey. This is really his summer between Iron Man and this Downey is at the top of Hollywood.

I love Jack Black Nacho Libre is one of the funniest movies ever as far as I'm concerned. Black's performance is really over shadowed. He spends half the movie strung out and in withdrawal spouting insane statements, and screaming his head off. The character he plays in the film although understated is that sort of tough talking city guy in every war movie.

1. The Ensemble - This group of actors together really works well. It almost feels like the comedy version of Ocean's Eleven. The character's play well off of each other and watching them go in and out of their characters is hilarious. Danny McBride also kicks ass in this flick as a pyromaniac special effects guy. Nolte also owns as a Vietnam Vet.

Each character is clearly defined and has a lot more comedy to mine. I would be all for Tropic Thunder 2, with a maybe a bigger more diverse cast possible collaborators Dave Chappelle, Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Chris Rock, Dane Cook, Bill Murray, etc.

I'm trying to save money on comics so I'm trying to stick to ten books a week. Let's see how that works out.

FINAL CRISIS LEGION OF THREE WORLDS #1(OF 5) - Johns is the best. I'm really excited for this. I wonder how this really plays into Final Crisis.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #24 - I like the cover and hopefully after this arch the JLA can stretch it's wings and move on from Meltzer's plots.

DC WILDSTORM DREAM WAR #5(OF 6) - This isn't working for me it feels weird and it doesn't feel like anything of importance has happened. In fact there isn't even any cool crossover moments since the first issue.

TRINITY #12 - I love this cover. Makes me wanna say Fuck Yeah!

IRON FIST ORIGIN OF DANNY RAND - Iron Fist is the best book marvel has as far as I;m concerned. Anyone disagree?

TANGENT SUPERMAN'S REIGN #6(OF 6) - I like this comic, I don't love it. Read it if you gto money to blow but by no means a must read.

MARVEL 1985 #4(OF 6) - I wish this book had more action.

BRAVE AND THE BOLD #16 - Superman Catwoman team up odd pairing usually these odd pairing s work at well. I'm curious to see how this plays out.

TRUE BELIEVERS #2(OF 5) - I liked the first issue enough to pick it up again. That speaks for itself. Also what a good cover.

YOUNG X-MEN #5 - This book sucks. Bring back the New X-men!

666 reasons to love Hell Ride

I'd like to preface this review by saying that one of my all time favorite movies is Easy Rider. Also, I'm a sucker for any bike movie in general. This movie is about to rival biker gangs warring with each other to track down a lost treasure from 1976. Without further ado I give you my review of Hell Ride.

HELL RIDE!!!

666. Rock n' Roll - This movie's soundtrack is perfection. From ans awesome motor cycle riding montage set to C.C. Rider.

This movie is wall to wall sound like a spaghetti western. It is complex and clever with it's musical choices. Especially in a scene in the film where our Biker hero Pistolero trips on Peyote to think. The music really fills the music up and makes the conflict feel epic.

665. Weaponry - Everyone is armed to the teeth and everyone has their own unique signature weapon. Pistolero has his pistol. The gent has his Revolver. Comanche has his revolver, cross bow, and scalping knife. Eddie Zero has a whole armory in his side car. Billy Wings has his arrow shooter gun thing which is really cool. The action this unique weaponry lends to the film makes it feel like a western and makes for some great gore.

664. Bikes - All these motorcycles are lovely. Some are classic others are more modern looking but their are no suzukis or gopeds. Everyone in this flick rides american steel. The bikes are extremely detailed and the production design is exquisite.

663. Characters - Most of the characters are one-dimensional and that's fine, hell that's what makes it fun. All you need to understand anyone is there name a look at a tattoo, or a look at their motorcycle.c Every prop and stitch of clothing defines the characters. Thei dialogue reinforces their look but is almost unnecessary. Pistolero. The Gent. Comanche. Billy Wings. Eddie Zero. The Deuce. Everyone has a moment to shine and each character is cool in their own way. This film is really a bunch of bad asses fighting out whose the most bad ass.

662-2. Women - This movie is filled with some of the hottest women in large numbers than I've seen in a long time. Every woman in this movie except for a 1 is perfect looking. The best part is that Bishop mr number 1 is a sex god in the film.

1. Larry Bishop - has written himself a terrific character, and a terrific bike movie. Pistolero is a genius character as embodied by the Paul Ruebens looking Bishop. He exudes sexuality, every woman in the film propositions him for sex, and his tattooed covered arms emphasize his toughness. His voice is the voice of the grittiest bad ass biker who ever lived. If his performance comes across cheesy to some to me it is simply fun. Tarantino was right to encourage Bishop in his biker epic. The movie would fit perfectly playing after Death Proof or Planet Terror. It feels like a real grind house picture.

Below is the trailer and I encourage you to see this movie if it's playing your area. I'm sure this film will become a cult classic over time if not already, so I'm sure we'll be able to enjoy it on DVD in the future. .

Batman Beyond- The Casting Couch

Found this great bit on casting the rest of batman filmverse on movie moron and incontention and I'd like to join the casting couch and pick my Bat-rogues.

Steve Buscemi as The Riddler - Buscemi would be the perfect voice for the Riddler's riddles and I'm sure he can make him menacing. Also his build and look are perfect. The Riddler shouldn't be Johnny Depp pretty.

Alan Arkin as Mr. Freeze - Put him in a big steam punk looking suit and play him as a discovered freak. Play up the fact that he's immortal and stay way from ice puns and this would be cool(couldn't resist).

Monica Bellucci as Talia Al Ghul - She looks nothing like Liam Neeson but she's hot and can act I think that's all Talia needs.

Javier Bardem as Bane - He's big and has a spanish accent and could act your face off. He could really have fun here. Make him a crime boss and put him in a luchador mask, maybe muscle him up with cgi. Another good choice would be Danny Trejo.

Al Pacino as The Ventriloquist - Let him get deep into character give him few lines and make him seem insignificant. Then imagine Tony Montana's voice pouring out of Scarface and enjoy a brilliant performance.

Natalie Portman as Catwoman - She can act, be pretty, and it would be cool to see her play some one morally gray as she is usually the nice girl.

Danny McBride as The Penguin - He would be entertaining for at least 10 minutes in costume.

Mickey Rourke as Killer Croc - If he can play Marv I'm sure he can play Croc. Get KNB to do some cool make-up and bulk him up in a suit it would work.

Sheri Moon Zombie as Poison Iy - She could play the eco-freak perfectly with a little hair dye and a saddistic story.

Simon Pegg as the Mad Hatter - Put him in a top hatand let him go mad. You can play the Hatter anyway you want really he's not one of those bat-villains that have a definitive form in the mainstream culture. You could play him as a serial killer, a control freak, an envious guy, or just mad.

Quentin Tarantino as Film Freak - Okay I never want to see Film Freak on the big screen but who else would be more believable.

Already cast roles that would be cool.

Johnny Depp = Joker

Doug Jones = Scarecrow

Sid Haig = Ra's Al Ghul

Benicio Del Toro = Two-Face

Michael Parks = Jim Gordon

GREEN ARROW BLACK CANARY #11 - The art by Cliff is a joy. I wish we could see more of Ollie at home with his wife being more husbandly and dealing with husbandly responsibilities.

HELL BOY THE CROOKED MAN #2(OF 3) - This is a pretty cool Hellboy story, it seems like he's going to meet the devil.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #27 - Love this cover and not for the Green Lantern bulges. .

TINY TITANS #7 - I wish this book was just like a weekly back up in the regular Teen Titans book.

LAST DEFENDERS #6 (OF 6) - I already bought the first 5 last one ain't gonna kill me.

TRINITY #11 - This series is working for me thus far. I find my self really interested in how they produce the comic.

6 reasons to HATE Pineapple Express

Pineapple Express did not deliver for me. I was very hyped for this move. I loved Superbad and I am a big Apatow fan. I thought this movie was going to blow Step Brothers away but it didn't at all. The wierd thing is that i hated this move and Ebert liked it, and I loved Step Brothers and Ebert ripped it.

6. Poor Plotting - A film that mixes genres successfully is From Dusk Till Dawn the first half is action the second horror. The style changes halfway through and there's never any foreshadowing or tease that the characters can expect to run into vampires it just happens. Like it would in real life. This film doesn't do that. Going from stoner comedy to buddy action isn't smooth at all. They just begin flailing about punching and shooting each other out of nowhere. The action or tension never rises. In action movies things usually escalate in this movie things only fizzle out.

5. 4o minutes too long -The film is 15 minutes too long but it feels like forty. A comedy shouldn't be more than 90 minutes especially a bad one. The film drags maybe its the plot that never seems to develop a goal or motivation beyond find those guys.

4. Rogen and Franco - - Rogen's Dale Denton is hard to like. He has a girlfriend in high school which requires some suspension of disbelief. His dialogue just doesn't work with him in the lead. Superbad, and Knocked Up were ensemble enough that everyones acting and screen time is equal so you never really get sick of anyones one dimensional personality. In this buddy flick Rogen and Franco own the screen time and they got on my nerves. There is only so much ineptitude I can stand to watch.

I love Franco I think he is the best actor of our time His portrayal of James Dean is magnificent and his work on Freaks and Geeks is so honest he looks like he's in a documentary half the time. This movie doesn;t show off his range. It doesn;t even give him that out there a character. Saul Silver is basically a quiet drug dealer who is contemplative but quick to action. He isn't horrible but he isn;t all that great in the flick.

3. Red - Red is played by Danny Mc Bride and he is hilarious. He almost saves the movie. He is probably the only good performance in the film simply because he has a schtick. Therest of the movies villains are lame and kind of standard.

2. Shitty Action - This films intent seems to me, to be to marry the stoner comedy genre and the buddy action movie genre. In doing so it serves neither master. The action is lame, and not in a funny lame like Steven Seagal where its funny because it takes it self overly serious. It's lame because it's really trying to be cool but is only mediocre. I've seen better production value on tv. The Killpoint which was a mini-series on spiketv which proably didn't have half the money this flick had, had superior action.

1. It didn't deliver- This movie's trailer was perfect.

It had an awesome song, the promise of cool action, and few laugh lines. It is still probably my favorite trailer of the year. However, MIA's Paper Planes is never used in the movie only the trailer. I guess this is good because they probably would have wasted it and now some other director like Guy Ritchie, or Rob Zombie can take it and use it for one of their films right.

Step Brothers!!!

Since it's hard to dissect a comedy with out giving up the best jokes. I'm going to highly recommend this film. I thought it was hilarious. It's dirty as hell, the musical choices are perfect, the setting is unique, the characterizations are very innocent and extremely creative. The trailer which i thought was hilarious actually doesn't give the funniest parts of the movie like most comedies do.

Instead of listing performances or themes, I am going to give the top 6 lines from the movie in no particular order.

Decide to make moment of weakness it's own thing so from now on expect it on fridays.

This week is all about a possible Goonies 2 and Lost Boys 3. Still haven't seen Lost Boys 2 so I'm on the fence till I see it. However, Goonies 2 is what i want almost as much as Ghostbusters 3. This photo should give hope everyone still appears to be pretty good looking for the camera.

I would like to see hollywood really reat this sequel like Indiana Jones and accept the passage of time. The modern day goonies should be just as fun and edgy as the original. A hard pg-13. The Goonies is one of the best films of the 80's mixing fantasy and the feeling of really being a young teen.

Any fellow Goonies fans out there?

6 reason to LOVE The Dark Knight

THE DARK KNIGHT

6. MAYOR BAT-MANUEL - Nestor Carbonell of Cane, Lost, and The Tick(live action tv series). Has a small part as the Mayor of Gotham. Why should anyone care? He helped lampoon the elements of the Batman mythos ad the one and only Batmanuel. This inside joke is almost worth the price of admission. Nestor is also a terrific actor and a fellow cuban-american like myself so I'm a big fan of the guy and I hope this flick gets him more film work.

5. BATMAN UNIVERSE - The universe truly is Batman's. The same way the Incredible Hulk and Iron Man realy seel the Marvel Universe. This film sells the Batman Universe and Gotham city. It makes the city a real world place and treats its characters like real people. Gotham is busy and complex. The fact that Batman first faces of against the Scarecrow makes the city feel busy and it helps you believe that a Batman villain is hiding behind every alley.

4. THEMES - The Dark Knight plays expands upon the themes of the last film. Choas and order. Crime, the law, and vigilantism are questioned. The movie really gives you more to chew on after the film than any comic book movie I've ever seen. My favorite theme is the way that Joker gets caught with his human experiment which proves Batman right for believing in humanity.

3. HARVEY "TWO-FACE" DENT - Two Face for some inexplicable reason is quite possibly my favorite bat villain. I love his origin and love the way it ties to and affects Bruce. I always imagine and this movie almost supports it, Harvey Dent was Bruce's plan to fix the earth. I think wayne imagined one day Harvey becoming president and reforming the entire country. This film supports the idea that Dent is more hero than Batman and what happens to him helps prove why batman needs to wear a mask. Eckhart's performance is outshown by Ledger but it is equally as good his anger is fearsome and his two-face logic (shooting the driver) is spot on perfect.

2. BATMAN - This is be far my favorite batsuit of the films it moves better although I don;t like the all black but I'll talk about that later. The Bat's gadgets were better than last time. The batpod was super cool. Wayne's playboy penthouse was pretty cool. I'm still don't like the way Bale portrays the bat. The voice is horrible and his soulless Bruce Wayne isn't as emotional or endearing as he should be.

1. JOKER - Ledger is perfect. His intro in the opening sequence is cool, effective, and classic. The Joker is a criminal genius. He makes you laugh and feel terror for his next move. He is sadistic and represents all the worst and wild elements of Gotham. He is every bit a match for Batman and his dialogue is amazing. "You complete me" is the most genius Joker line ever. He never asked "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?"

FINAL CRISIS #3(OF 7) - I love this cover. I wish I loved this comic.

HOUSE OF MYSTERY #4 - This book is interesting and subversive check it out.

IRON MAN VIVA LAS VEGAS #2(OF 4) - It's been way too long since issue one.

TWELVE #7 (OF 12) - This is my favorite of the ww2 heroes in present day maxi-series that are out.

ULTIMATE ORIGINS #3(OF 5) - I don't really get it but i'm still buying it.

VENOM DARK ORIGIN #1(OF 5) - With a possible Venom movie on the horizon this book may very well serve as the basis.

JONAH HEX #34 - Meh.

TRINITY #10 - This series is really very good.

WAR THAT TIME FORGOT #4(OF 12) - I like this series a lot. Every issue has people fighting a different dinosaur which is kind of genius. This cover is the weakest out of all the ones they've done so far but I still like it.

DETECTIVE COMICS #847 RIP - I liked last issue with HUSH I hope he doesn't take the bat mantle though.

AVENGERS INVADERS #4(OF 12) - Great cover. alex ross is really busy huh?

FATHOM #1 - No idea who or what this is. picking it up cause it has a cool sounding title.

TOR #4(OF 6) - Haven't been reading this, I'm collecting it to read all six together.

reel geezers have a dark knight

My Dark Knight review is coming soon sorry for the delay but it's taken a while to put my thoughts together. i was watching reel geezers review on dark knight which you can see here.

I never heard of Batman's origin as Bat's being all criminals common fear and that's why he chose it as his mantle. It's campy, cool, and kind of neat. Although kind of lame. It got me thinking what other explanations for Batman's style could or have people come up with. If anyone knows any better justifications for dressing up as a bat please let me know below.

Old Man Logan #2 comes out tomorrow and I'm pretty hyped. I almost missed the first issue but thanks to a cover of the week nod by nick, i checked it out in the store and after perusing the art was sold.

OLD MAN LOGAN! is the coolest freaking book out there. Millar is really owning the comic book industry. He's delivering a lot of fun cool stories. Between 1985, Kick-Ass and this. I think it's safe to call myself a Millar fan especially after reading Wanted.

Imagine Wolverine as a pacifist in a post-apocalyptic Marvel Universe. The giant villain uprising that happens in Wanted is now applied to the Marvel Universe.

Only Marvel's villains are too gawdy to run the world in secret peacefully. They have to own it publicy and feud against each other.

The Hulks redneck kids were a joy.

Wow all of the Hulks offspring are dangerous.

By the way, Wolverine has a son named Scott! LOL!

#1 GREEN LANTERN #33 - This story is perfect. I love the way that Johns writes Sinestro. He's so pompous.

#3 WOLVERINE #67 - Old Man Logan is awesome. The Marvel version of wanted with a little bit of Escape from New York thrown in.

#4 STAR TREK YEAR FOUR ENTERPRISE EXPERIMENT #4 - This book is solid and I love the art is has a very nostalgic felling which i dig. Keep it up IDW.

#5 TEEN TITANS #61 - Kind of pissed my favorite Titan Ravager is off the squad hope she returns soon. Until then Blue Beetle and Kid Devil will have to do.

#6 BLUE BEETLE #29 - I like this cover. Is that supposed to be the Texas Mexico border?

#7 BATMAN DEATH MASK #4(OF 4) -More Batmanga. I love it. I'd love to see the Manga take on Scarecrow or Joker or Killer Croc.

#8 JOKER'S ASYLUM TWO FACE #1 - meh.

#9 SECRET INVASION FANTASTIC FOUR #3(OF 3) - I like this book i thought I would've dropped it but it's a good read and new reader friendly.

#10 HUNTRESS YEAR ONE #6(OF 6) - One of the best year one's i've read.

#1 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #17 - I like the direction Marvel is taking Iron Fist he's really growing as a character.

#2 TRINITY #8 - Trinity is working for me the story feels like it's building to something real and the characters seem to be moving toward the same place.

#3 BRAVE AND THE BOLD #15 - Nightwing and Hawkman not the most excited team up but let's see what type of chemistry they produce.

#4 GREEN LANTERN CORPS #26 - This book wraps up the Mongul arch which is pretty good.

#5 JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #23 - JLA needs to step it up. Cool cover though.

#6 TWO FACE: YEAR ONE #1(OF 2) - With all the Batman energy in the air how could I not pick up a book about my favorite bat-foe.

#7 JOKER'S ASYLUM: SCARECROW #1 - These Joker Asylum's have been hit or miss, hopefully this one will hit.

#8 NEW AVENGERS #43 - Secret Invasion sucks and takes forever and has the worst flow of any story ever.

#9 SUPERMAN #678 - First issue was good so I'm still on board.

#10 WOLVERINE FIRST CLASS #5 - Wolverine in Alpha Flight sounds like fun.

#11 X-MEN LEGACY #214 - The end of last issue was great tease at Mr. Sinister/ Prof. X. This is the worst book I read but the next issue always seems like it's going to improve.

Random thoughts I had while watching The Dark Knight

That movie was fucking awesome!

The Joker was hilarious and terrifying!

Two-Face was random and beautiful!

Commissioner Gordon was my hero!

And Batman had those wonderful toys!

Why are number two's always the best?

This movie was the good,

the bad,

and the ugly!

My favorite comic-book movie ever!

Most importantly Speed Racer just got knocked off. Sorry Speed.

I can't believe that tonight I finally get to see The Dark Knight. This is the movie that has really become the focus of the summer. It's insane to realize that next week you'll be able to watch Iron Man, The Hulk, Hellboy, and Batman films back to back plus you can also see Wanted(which I don't recommend, but it's based on comic). Is this the best nerd summer. I think so I can't remember enjoying so many movies. Iron Man, Hulk, and Hellboy have been great. I can't imagine the Dark Knight not being good.

Enjoy this Joker VS. Joker Vid it's not as good as the Battle of the Batmans but it reminded me of my all time favorite Joker line.

There is a Watchmen trailer trying to steal Batman's thunder tonight.

I don't like that they call Zach Snyder a visionary director. I hated 300 and I think I'm going to like this less. The trailers song choice is horrible. Setting the film in 2009 is a bad move. The Nite- Owl stuff looks lame. Doc Manhattan looks really fake. The CGI looks really halfassed in this trailer. None of the costumes except for Rorscach work. I'm not happy with this at all.

In anticipation of The Dark Knight tonight. Here is my Gotham Knight review.

I am not an anime fan but i really enjoyed this batman. The stories were well constructed and fun. Kevin Conroy voices Batman and Bruce and shows once again why he is the best voice for Batman ever. Nothing ground breaking but solid Batman tales with emphasis on the way that different people see what they want to to in Batman, but I'm getting ahead of myself lets break it down. Usually I break it down to 6 reasons I enjoyed it. Since this film is six short stories I'm just going to review each part on it's own.

Batman Gotham Knight

"Have I Got A Story For You" - Great Story. It's kind of a classic Batman style to show how kids imagine Batman. I espeically enjoyed the Marvel version of Batman that is in an Ironman Suit and jumps around like the Hulk.

"Crossfire" - Crispus Allen meets animation. I like him as the spectre in the comics and he works in this short with out the ghost. Montoya isn't in this instead we get some other female cop named Ramirez. The gotham crime families are on display and the way the cops view Batman is shown in a fresh way that helps build the movie universe up.

"Field Test" - This was one of the better stories. It showed some neat tech. It's cool to see Batman decide that he has to be vulnerable to fight crime the way that's right.

"In Darkness Dwells" - Anime Gotham Sewers are awesome. Killer Croc was pretty lame and was just a rampaging monster. Scarecrow sported a great outfit and the scythe he was tossing around were very slick. I like the pacing in the story but I wish they had done Killer Croc better.

"Working Through Pain" - I felt this story was the weakest of them all. It was confusing. I thought the guns in the garbage can was some metaphor and that Bruce was hallucinating in his pain but it wasn't so it felt kind of lame. The parts of Bruce remembering his training is kind of lame and not very captivating.

"Deadshot" - Deadshot is truly the anti-Batman. The two are evenly matched despite Deadshot's heavy armaments.

The anime Deadshot is more weaselly than the justice league version and I wasn't very impressed with his costume design.

The train fight was pretty cool and had a very epic feel which I dug.

The ending is perfect with Batman looking up into the Bat-Signal pondering his parents death.

Also it's interesting to see Bruce admire the beauty of a gun.

HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY!!!

6. Tooth Fairys- Del Toro makes the Tooth Fairy a vicious sadistic little horde of monsters. They are both cute and terrifying. The perfect openning baddies for Hellboy to squiah up and show mass carnage and feces. The little buggers steal the show.

5. Magic Robots - The Golden Army is basically magic robots. The only way they could be better is if they were zombie magic robots.

4. Krauss - If you would've told me walking into this movie that Hellboy and Abe Sapien weren't going to be the weirdest looking hero? I would've told you, you were crazy. Krauss look supercool, he has a steam punk vibe, and a very Mr. Freeze looking suit. Krauss is voiced by Seth McFarlane of Family Guy fame. His performance is quite good and his scenes with Hellboy and crew are very memorable. He lightens the movie effectively. He also has a terrific visual which make me start theorizing about the smoke monster of Lost.

3. Love Story - Hellboy 2 means 2 love stories. Kind of reminded me of Back To The Future Part 3, Abe is totally Doc Brown in love. He's unsure how to make his fishy appearance studly. He is a fantastic drunk. Not only that but Hellboy and Abe give love to Barry The Manilow, one of my favorite singers. This part of the movie is for the girlfriends and in the screening i was in it was greeted with the appropriate awes of cuteness.

2. Baby - Hellboy fights a giant plant monster with a Baby in one hand and a big gun named Baby in the other.

1. Hellboy - Perlman owns the film. He plays a Hellboy as Charlie Brown meets Terminator. The audience really sympathizes for the big guy more than in the first movie as we see him now deal with humanity and there opinions. Points are even made about his inter-species relationship with Liz. Hellboy always seems to be in the center of the screen and looking heroic.

Speed Vs. Hellboy

Speed is still king. Hellboy had it's flaws. Make up wise I think this time the made Hellboy a little smaller than last film and it really sucks to see Hellboy with this thin torso and a giant head.

#7 DC WILDSTORM DREAMWAR #4 (OF 6) - This is a pretty dumb series I think I'm dropping it,

#8 TANGENT SUPERMAN'S REIGN #5( OF 12) - This series is really poorly planned. This series should be an event. You shouldn't schedule this at the same time as Final Crisis when is this supposed to be happening?

I'm hyped about The Dark Knight a great deal of my excitement is to see Ledger's performance. So see how his co-workers talk about him.

Now over here at the Weekness we love the 1987 Fred Dekker classic Monster Squad and really hope the Rob Cohen produced remake never-ever gets made.

#1 BOOSTER GOLD #1,000,000 - I gave my brother Sam the issues up to this one and he has no knowledge of DC history and he loved it. Thats how good this series is.

#2 GREEN ARROW BLACK CANARY #10 - I like the book but I want this story line to wrap up. So we can see some Deathstorke or some of Green Arrow's new married status quo.

#3 JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #17 - Wow It's been 17 issues. Alot has happened yet nothing has happened. Wierd.

#4 FINAL CRISIS REQUIEM #1 - Morrison is sucking hard. The Martian still hasn't gotten his due and this cover is crap.

#5 SECRET INVASION #4 - This series is sucking.

#6 TRINITY #6 - I'm really negative. I stille haven't read issue 4 or 5 but I still like this book. I had no clue it would be better than Final Crisis.

# 7 ACTION COMICS #867 -Johns is the best. Last issue was fantastic jump on this book.

#8 CAPTAIN AMERICA WHITE #0 - Heard good things about this.

#9 HUNTRESS YEAR ONE #5 (OF 6) - This series is actually good. Great art, quality plotting, and story telling.

Sorry for posting so many you-tubey filled posts, but I enjoy the format. Do you like it or not?

Avengers Invaders - Namor is a bit dreamy. I like timetravel. It's to much to add on to Secret Invasion with out calling it a crisis.

Detective Comics - Haven't read it. I might start grabbing it if the Dark Knight throws me into a bout of batmadness.

Catwoman, The Goon, Captain Britain, Tank Girl, Invincible Iron Man, Thor, - Doesn't catch my eye.

Secret Invasion - Meh, Fury wasn't that bad ass. I like your Skrull theory.

Young X-men - Crappy indeed.

Cookiness- Genius observation. I know what you mean. I feel more familiar with the DCU so I enjoy the characters and archetypes more than marvel which to me seems like it's cooky in a 90's way as opposed to a silver age way like the current dcu.

Hulk: Raging Thunder, Young Avengers, red Hulk, Cable - is of no interest to me.

X-force - How do you like this book? It's so crappy and dumb. I hate the art!

Abe Sapien - Might have to pick it up.

Gen Next - I will have to pick it up now. I love New X-men.

I wasn't going to check out Hellcat but Pulp Secret sold me on it. When I go to get my comics tomorrow I'll grab it.

Also I'm due to grab Planet Hulk. The Hulk movie piqued my interest enough and I want to see the prologue to World War Hulk. I hope Avengers looks like this.

I'm also thinking about grabbing Noble Causes. Faerber is right up their with Johns as far as top writers in comics currently. I'm currently reading Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One. My brother lent them to me and he's reading Wanted which he has got me interested in. I'll probably polish off Wanted by the end of the month. Haven't checked out the movie yet, not that interested. It's sad to say because Hellboy is one of my top ten favorite movies, that I am now more looking forward to The Dark Knight than Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.

I'm in a Batman mood. I've been watching the Batman the Animated Series and Justice League episodes.

I agree with all their pics and would like to add my own.

10. The Riddler - Jim Carey in Batman Forever was stupendous he brought a lot of energy and insanity to the role. If his plot was more realistic and less sci-fi would make Carey's performance perfect.

9. Poison Ivy - She is the sole bright spot in Batman and Robin she was sexy, alluring, and seductive. She acts like a bond girl and her transformation form nerdy to sultry is perfect. She reminds me of Weird Science.

8. Howard Saint - John Travolta is one of our cheesiest actors but he was gold in The Punisher. As an audience memebr he comes off as such an a-hole that you're happy to see him destory his family and business. Also his death is one of the coolest action movie deaths ever.

7. Doc Ock - Alfred Molina gives a layered and menacing performance as the bad doctor. The audience can buy him as the mourning crazy husband. Also the cgi of watching him rob a bank is beautiful.

6. Ra's Al Ghul - Liam Neeson is perfect. The Watanabe fake was believable and Neeson has all the charm and sophistication to play Ra's.

5. Beast - Kelsey Grammer is great casting. I hated this movie but Kelsey's voice and demeanor fit beast perfectly. The Make-up was off though.

4. Lt. Gordon - Gary Oldman is one of my favorite actors he is always solid from Dracula, to True Romance, to the good guy Jim Gordon. He is honest and you feel for him as a character.

3. The Trickster - Mark Hamill gives a beautiful performance as the Trickster. A wonderful preview of his voice acting skills. He is the master of comic book villainy.

2. Jean Grey - Famke Janssen is hot and looks wonderful in red. They never truly used her acting skills and would love to have watched her and Cyclops really fall in love on screen but it never panned out.

1. The Caretaker and General Thunderbolt Ross - Sam Elliot is not only the bomb in westerns and in The Big Lebowski. He also has the perfect comic book exposition voice. His mustache is majestic and his eyes are enthralling. He is the best part of a lot of border line movies.

#1 ALL NEW ATOM #25 - This book is ending and it's a shame because this character is great. I hope he gets a JLA roster spot.

#2 BLUE BEETLE #28 - I hope this book does not go the way the Atom does this character is gold if someone who reads this blog isn't reading this comic you should be a shamed and you're really missing out.

#3 DYNAMO 5 #14 - I love this book. It's original and fun. I highly recommend it for all readers.

#4 AVENGERS INVADERS #3(OF 12) - I like the premise of this issue and can't wait to see which Namor wins my money os on the young one.

#5 WAR THAT TIME FORGOT #3(OF 12) - I like this book it has me a little confused but it feels like lost but more sci-fi.

#6 TRINITY #5 - They're not disappointing.

#7 BATMAN #678 RIP - I don't understand what's happening.

I found this on the youtubes on my quest for info on The Dark Knight. This would totally work and I'd totally buy it and dig it. These are pics of what Harley could look like as a counterpart to Nolan's Joker. I love the Diamond tattoo and multicolored hair. Also this fan vid of the Battle of the Batmen is genius and really well done, although I wish they would've thrown in a little Adam West.

1.) Crowbar It's not cool or slick, but I've read the Zombie Survival Guide and this is the weapon you want. It's got good reach, it's silent, never runs out of ammo, and is a good all purpose tool.

2.) Nick has the right idea suggesting AC/DC my first impulse is to pick TNT by AC/DC.However, I'll kick it ironic and pick Simon and Garfunkel The Sound of Silence.

3.) My dad.… People seem to like to pick people with experience. I will go against the grain and not pick, ash, or Shaun or another zombie killer. I'm tempted to go Termniator as he would be the perfect body guard against the undead, but I'll keep this real and say My dad. He's tuff and I trust him to watch my back.

I didn't want to write full posts since these movies aren't comic book related.

I saw Get Smart. I didn't like it. I didn't laugh. I'm not familiar with the TV show and the plot was dumb.

I saw Don't mess with the Zohan. It was hilarious. I highly recommend it. It's one of Snadler's funniest comedies. It deals with political issues slightly. It's like Kung-fu Hustle only with sex and haircuts. I liked it.

TITANS #3 Go! I love this cover it reminds me of Star Wars and I like how winick is playing with the characters it's interesting watching them juggle.

IRON MAN LEGACY OF DOOM #3 (OF 4) No! The totally out of character writing of Doom is frustrating. Writers nowadays right Doom like he's a pleb or pedestrian and not the monarch, aristocrat that he is.

SECRET INVASION WHO DO YOU TRUST Go! This is what regualr Secret Invasion should be. Pick this book up the Wonderman Beast story is worth the cover price alone.

SKAAR SON OF HULK #1 No! This didn't blow me awys but there is potential.

TWELVE #6 (OF 12) Go! The Phantom Reporter is back!!

TINY TITANS #5 No! I enjoy it but I don't know if this book is worth what I spend on it.

Chris Schweizer has a great rundown of the Marvel Universe's biggest smokers.

My favorites that he lists are in no particular order.

GAMBIT - for obvious reasons.

REED RICHARDS - It's as if the pipe were invented for his nerdy stretchy face.

J. JONAH JAMESON - No type of smoking goes better with screaming growling menace like a fat stubby cigar and J.J. owns it.

BANSHEE - The cigarrette enhances his European-ness. It also shows of his pubby beer drinking side. Is Banshee dead?

ELECTRO & BULLSEYE - Smoking enhances their villainy and menace. It takes them from costumed clowns to realistic seedy criminals. You can easily imagine them in prison bartering for smokes or smoking a cigarette after a bank heist to relax.

Why bring this up?

Because some groups have taken offense to how William Hurts character in The Incredible Hulk was smoking. That is ridiculous the type of props and vices a character has enhances the character. It delivers quickly and clearly the type of person the character is with out to much work. This is a free speech issue. I understand not wanting to tell kids smoking is cool, but it's not the hero smoking it's the villain.

Come on?

Recently, Swinebread, who holds some what anti-Gambit beliefs, asked me why I enjoyed the character?

Also tomorrow X-men Legacy is going to feature him prominently so here's a Gambit post.

I began my comics life with the 1990's x-men cartoon. Gambit was featured prominently on the show. He was attracted to Rogue, so was I.

The fact that he's a smoker is one of the reasons I like him. Not many superheroes smoke cigarettes, he's almost a villain and a bit of a cowboy. He has a unique sense of honor. H e has a wierd costume that I'm not sure serves a purpose but it does look pretty cool.

He's like the Han Solo or Sawyer of the X-men team. He's not a boy scout he's a bad boy. He's maybe the second most bad-ass character on the X-team after Wolverine.

He's a thief and he has skills beyond his mutation. He has so much destructive power but doesn't use it. He uses playing cards!

He is in total control of his ability. You never hear about gambit accidentally blowing some one up. Gambit is pure Bad ass incarnate.

#1 FINAL CRISIS #2(OF 7) - I'm excited but I feel like I'm missing panels when I read a Morrison book.

#2 GREEN LANTERN #32 - This is the best story line of the summer.

#3 MIGHTY AVENGERS #15 - Pym's abduction can't wait to see what they pull out of their ass.

#4 NEW AVENGERS #42 - So they're taking the wayback machine to New Avengers #1. I wonder how the Spiderman One More Day retcon will be addressed.

#5 MARVEL 1985 #2(OF 6) - This is a cool book but it would have been better with real photography or if it was drawn by Alex Ross.

#6 TEEN TITANS #60 - Clock King is pretty cool but I don't like the way that this is tying into Final Crisis.

#7 TRINITY #4 - This is actually good and I love the way they're doing triple covers.

#8 X-MEN LEGACY #213 - Gambit is my favorite X- character. If this book is going to give me him than it's on my pull list.

#9 WOLVERINE FIRST CLASS #4 - Don't no if I like all this Wundagore stuff but I like the art,

#10 SECRET INVASION RUNAWAYS YOUNG AVENGERS #1(OF 3) - Let's see how the kids are gonna fair in New York fighting and army of Super Skrulls.

#11 PROJECT SUPERPOWERS #4(OF 7) - This series feels like its moving at a snails pace and there is no villain as far as I can tell.

#12 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #16 - Meh.

#13 MS MARVEL #28 - Double meh.

#14 SUPERMAN #677 - I don't usually like Robinson but I'm ready to change my mind.

#15 MYTHOS CAPTAIN AMERICA - I picked up a couple of these mythos books before and I like them. They are repetitive but I like to see new artists take on the origin. Also this cover just looks neat for some reason.

#16 THE MAN WITH NO NAME #2 - Didn't like the first issue. This is it's last chance to impress me before I drop it.

moment of weakness

This weeks moment is more sad than geeky. A comedy legend has died as I'm sure you've heard. George Carlin and his comedy means alot to me. Some of my favorite memories with my family are watching his stand up on tv and laughing together. Carlin was a god. He never grew old or stale and his observations on american culture were always spot on provocative and insightful. Carlin in my book is the greatest philosopher of the 20th century. I send my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fans. His comedy really meant alot to me. Usually when old celebrities die I'm not affected, but this time I am. Carlin is the gold standard of smart comedy and no one will ever replace him and there will never be another. Thank you Mr. Carlin for affecting my life and making me smile.

Despite the many negative reviews I had to make up my own mind on the Happening and I loved it. I'm in the minority but I'm proud of that.

6. Mark Wahlberg - Me and Wahlberg have a weird relationship. I hated him thefirst time I saw him in the Planet of the Apes remake and wrote him off as a piece of crap actor. Eventually he weasled his way into my heart with his performance in I Heart Huckabees, We Own the Night, The Departed, and Four Brothers. In this film he does both his best and worst work. At times he is scared and his voice gets all squeaky and it is unintentionally funny. However in romantic scenes he shines and when he talks to kids he seems to speak so honestly. Its a very interesting and sketchy performance. Wahlberg's character is a scientist as such his character thinks about the situation scientifically in trying to solve it.

5. The Scenery - I love movies that show off the American landscape. This movie makes me want to take a drive through the North East. The movie is lush green and it's color palette is subtle, selective, and effective.

4. B-movie Style - This movie could have been made for 10,000 and been a direct to dvd flick easily. It's not though, people spent serious bank to make this b-movie premise real and gruesome. It was money well spent the gore is perfect and has a Dawn of the Dead vibe. People running from wind is genius.

3. Character Actors - This movie is full of great small parts. Night's cast is monster good. There is the perfect scary old lady who seems like Norman Bates is mom. There is the weird famer who loves hotdogs and plants. The scared sniveling army private who is trying to stay cool. There is the calm collected astute principal. The youth who tries to be a hero. My personal favorite, the guy who drives a jeep. I loved looking at the faces of the extras.

2. M. Night Shyamalan - I love Shyamalan's work I know I'm in the minority and think that after the Sixth Sense and Signs all he's made is turds. I disagree. I think Unbreakable is his best flick and this movie reminds me of it if only for the train scene and the idea of surviving a disaster. Night is a polarizing figure in the movie world people love to hate on him and rag on him for putting multiple twists in his films. The fact is Night gets me to go to the movies and support him. His films are always thoughtful and have some sort of minute message which is what movies should have a little of.

1. John Leguizamo - I know how highly unlikely it is but Leguizamo should win an oscar for his performance in this flick. His character is instantly likable and he really rips your heart out. I love Leguizamo's work both in acting and comedy. He is a great b-movie actor but in this flick he gives a performance that would make Daniel Day Lewis look like Harrison Ford. It's worth the admission for Leguizamo alone.

Speed VS. Shyamalan

Speed wins because its more fun and this movie doesn't have ninjas.

#1 GEMINI #2 (OF 5) - I love Faerber and the design work on this book is impressive. I recommend looking for the first issue and jumping aboard this mini.

#2 JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #22 - I want to give Red Tornado a shot, he gets called a second rate Vision alot.

#3 TRINITY # 3 - The guys at Pulp Secret summed it up the best. This is the first of DC's weekly series that actually feels like a comic and not a slapped together stunt.

#4 BRAVE AND THE BOLD #14 - Green Arrow and Deadman! I am happy.

#5 SECRET INVASION FANTASTIC FOUR #2(OF 3) - Meh.

#6 DC SPECIAL CYBORG #2(OF 5) - I like this book thus far it is nothing spectacular but it's decent and has potential. It's also a good book for people unfamiliar with the character track down issue one and jump on it.

#7 TANGENT SUPERMAN'S REIGN #4(OF 12) - This book feels like it meandering, I might drop it.

#8 DC WILDSTORM DREAM WAR #3(OF 6) - More meandering and I still don't know what a Dream War is.

MOMENT OF WEAKNESS

1. Slashfilm reports that the new harry potter island in islands of adventure orlando will have an original mini movie filmed with the cast of the films. That is freaking sweet I cant wait till this park opens.

2. Scipio wrote a lovely post celebrating Trinity and breaking down the big three very thought fully.

3. Ragtime has a post in response where he votes the Trinity should be four and it should include of all people Guy Gardner. I'm with him and I'm sure SallyP is too.

6 reasons to like The Incredible Hulk

So I make my triumphant return to blogging rejuvenated and ready to review ass and blog names.

SPOILERS AHOY, MATES!!!!

The Incredible Hulk!!!

6. Edward Norton - Has made me edit Best Incarnations. He was perfect. He put the Hulk in real life situations like trying to have sex, and on the run believably. I am also really into the idea that Banner is trying to master his rage through meditation it gives him a more global and batman vibe.

5. The Leader - I'm not a big Hulk fan and I really know very little about the character, his rogues, and his history. However, I do have rudimentary knowledge on the finer points of his rogues and the Leader I always thought was the lamest, but had the most potential. I am hyped at the prospect of the Leader actually being committed to film. Tim Blake Nelson is brilliant, he is way underused and should've gotten an oscar for his performance in O' borther where art thou. He is really going to shine with a bulbous head.

4. Tim Roth - I love Tarantino and I love Roth through those films. He is one of the best villainous actors of our generation. He was dynamite in the planet of the apes remake and is by far one of the best ape actors in that film. In this movie he carries a sense of cool and dread that is unique. He feels like he came off a comic book page.

3. Captain America preview - Blonsky gets injected with a mild version of the super soldier serum. He has a bad ass fight with Hulk which I hope is the look and style of Captain America's movement, it was smooth fluid and matrix-y.

2. Strong Sense of Universe - Iron Man felt free and fresh. This movie felt like it lived in the same universe which is quite the accomplishment. It also was able to convey a great sense of visual scope. The King Kong-ish scene of Betty and Hulk in the cave was cute and helped to develop both characters. This movie also continued the themes in marvel comics on how to deal with great power.

1. Hulk Smash! -"HULK SMASH!" is probably the single best delivered line ever. It sounded sweet, innocent, angry, honest, fun, and cool. I wish that the Hulk would've said more one liners. The dialogue in this film was superb. The technobabble was clear and kept to a minimum. I loved Blonsky he had the right sense of cool and menace. Blonsky kicking off the third act by saying it's "Ready for round 3" was gold.

Hulk Vs. Incredible Hulk

I think it's necessary to compare this film to the 2003 hulk, simple because it's the same franchise and changes were made that weren't necessarily great. Story wise things have improved the plot is simple clear and moves fairly quickly delivering a lot of Hulk fighting action. However I have to say Ang Lee made a better edited film the comic book panel flow of the previous movie was very cool and I wish that the Incredible Hulk would've emulated it. Everybody was recast but Sam Elliott shouldn't have been. Sam Elliot is the perfect Thunderbolt Ross. I like William Hurt in his other movies but his performance in the Hulk felt dry and passionless. Thunderbolt is hunting his white whale he is Ahab he needs to be passionate about it. In the beginning of the movie Blonsky lets the Hulk escape and Thunderbolts like "no problem good work dude." Sam Elliot had the right voice and style to play Thunderbolt.

As far as hulks go the only improvement was the hair cut. Other than that the cg looked of the sam quality if perhaps a little less realistic in the Incredible Hulk.

Hulk Vs. Speed

Speed Racer is still king of my summer. No movie has thrilled me the way it has and I have now seen it three times in theaters and it only gets better. Go out and see it.

mental maintenance

Sorry, for not being around lately guys. The read pile is late and that is unacceptable. I've been busy since Thursday with work and comics maintenance(bagging and boarding takes time). Also some of the comics that I read have ended with out much notice. Fist of all as I've said before Shadowpact is no more, and JLU is no longer with us. Which totally sucks because JLU was fun, one-and done storytelling. It also kept the animated universe alive in spirit. Oh and next month is the last isssue of the all-new atom. Why does DC want to destroy my favorite comics? So until I get more time to write, feel free to peruse my links list and enjoy some top bloggers.

End of the Shadowpact

Shadowpact concluded with issue #25. This really bums me out. The book wasn't that great but it really could have been.

The team had it's finest moments forming during the Infinite Crisis. It has never gotten better than Day of Vengeance which has some of my favorite covers ever, and really depicts the magical element of the DCU into something really cool and unique.

The Shadowpact felt to me like it almost had an X-Factor or X-men vibe. So because I think this short lived series might read better and as an appetizer to what should be the ultra-lame Reign in Hell.

I am going to review all the Shadowpact's appearances as a team.

I didn't realize we're only a couple of weeks away from the Incredible Hulk and marvel has won me over with, there latest tv spot which makes the movie look very fun.

Also, slashfilm is reporting that Lucasfilm is working on Star Tours 2.0. Which as a fan of Star Wars and Disney World has me very excited.

This is a cool vid marvels put together to attract comics fan. I don't think it works. The Hulk in this looks super lame along with the giant robo villain. Iron Man is good but it really gives you know perspective about the current state of affairs in the marvel u. What do you think about it?

Okay so I'm pissed some how there were problems with Young X-men #2. I gotta think this over.

#1 KICK ASS #3 - It's felt like an eternity since I read issue 2 I wish they'd stop turning this into a movie and start turning it into a comic.

#2 TRINITY #1 - Terrible cover, it looks like fan art.

#3 SECRET INVASION #3(OF 8) - Please let something cool happen, that will advance the plot in a relevant way.

#4 JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #16 - The twist in the last issue really reinvigorated this book for me. I have faith in Gog, I mean Geoff.

#5 ALL NEW ATOM #24 - Remender's got nards...nuff' said.

#6 AVENGERS INVADERS #2(OF 12) - Love the cover. Last issue was just okay though, let's see if we can get some plot this issue.

#7 WAR THAT TIME FORGOT #2 - I liked the first issue although it left me a little confused.

#8 BATMAN DEATH MASK #3(OF 4) - I am loving this. I hope some other characters get the same sort of manga treatment. I could see the Blue Beetle working well in this format.

#9 JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #46 - Green Lanterns all up in the cover. I'm hyped.

#10 HOUSE OF MYSTERY #2 - The first issue was crazy and disgusting. If I understand this issue I might be in it for the long haul but I suspect this book is to smart for me.

#11 JONAH HEX #32 - Meh.

#12 ULTIMATE ORIGINS #1(OF 5) - The ads totally sold me on this. I've never read an Ultimate book and am not a big fan of the universe as an outsider, but I'll give this the old college try.

#13 TOR #2(OF 6) - I liked the first issue it was wierd but this book maybe to dark and contemplative for me.

#14 YOUNG X-MEN #2-3 - I don't know what's going on. I'll give you more info when I have the situation under control.

#15 MARVEL SPOTLIGHT SECRET INVASION - These spotlights are a nice waste of money.

Weekend Watcher

This weekend didn't go as well as planned.

I didn't make the Strangers due to scheduling errors and long lines. I did see Speed Racer again though and I think I have to right another review on it because that movie is totally amazing.

The Kimbo fight was good and disgusting, but I think cbs did a piss poor job. It went on to long due to them announcing people to much. Also there was a sense of confusion at all the results nothing felt solid or firm. I don't think the end of the fight was lame. You don't want someone losing their ear in a fight. All in all I liked it but just because I like Kimbo.

As for the Brothers Venture I eagerly anticipate the start and this weeks post will probably be laced with venture quotes. So stay tuned.

Does any one like this weekend watcher segment? I'm debating whether to give it a stab as a Weekend column since people rarely posts on weekends.

Top Ten Superhero Flicks

Over at Comics Fairplay a challenge has been issued to commit your top ten best super hero movies. I'm pretty sure I might have to revise this list at the end of the summer but here goes.

10. The Crow - I never have read the comic so I don't know how good of an adaptation it is but I love this flick. I listened to the soundtrack non-stop when it came out. The story is perfect and the morals and actions in the film always made an impression on me. Best scene in the movie is the first revenge scene with the pawn shop order. Lee was a pretty darn good actor I regret he didn't have a chance to make more films.

9. Daredevil - Affleck was the bomb in phantoms yo. He's alss pretty good in this. The casting except for Elektra and Kingpin is perfect. I don't have beef with the black Kingpin I like their logic in going with Michael Clark Duncan as the best big man out there, but whatever I like my Kingpin to be a little bit of a tycoon and less of a hood. The story is solid and the imagery works. The cameos by writers and artists that worked on Daredevil is cool and fun.

8. Blade 2 - Del Toro is a god in my eyes. He has done the best entry in the Blade series. His Blade was moody and added to the Blade mythos in a big way for me. The fight scenes were the best they've been and the villains are hard to look at which is impressive. I loved the vampire gang with Perlman.

7. Spiderman 2 - The only Spidey flick I've liked. It felt like it was a real family film that was friendly to all audiences with a story that resonates. Molina is brillaint as Doc Ock, he is both tragic and frightening. The special effects work, and the cinematography is iconic.

6. The Punisher - Thomas Jane is a great actor. I like the way he was translated and the way the movie is treated like an action movie. I love the cinematography in this flick it has a very wild west style which i dig. Also the various villains that try to kill him were awesome especially the guitar guy I forget his name.

5. Iron Man - See this .

4. Batman Forever - I will defend this pick. I love Jim Carey in this movie, he is crazy and it works for me. Two-Face is also cool although campy and I like the way his origin is not dealt with on screen. I love the scene with the glow in the dark skull gang fighting Robin. Kilmer isn't bad as bats although he should have died his hair black. Oh yeah, and i get a kiss from a rose on the grave, biznitch.

3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - I've never read a turtles comic in my life. As far back as I can remember this was my favorite movie and almost every toy I owned was tmnt themed. It also has the best ten minute of opening in any movie. That really perfectly sets tone, mystery, and the various character dynamics.

2. Batman Begins - This movie is perfect. Chris Nolan is the best dramatist of our time. The cast is superb ev en if batman sounds like a shitty Clint Eastwood instead of Kevin Conroy.

1. Hellboy - I'm a Del Toro fan boy this movie is beautiful, fun, touching, romantic, dramatic, epic, funny, and everything a movie should be. This is on my top 10 favorite movies of all time list.

Tonight I get to see the Strangers which looks super awesome. I never get scared during movies I think that this movie might actually get to me.

Tommorow night Kimbo Slice my very own hometown street fighting legend gets to kick some ass on cbs.

And on sunday night...the third season of the Venture Bros. comes out.

Interpreting Y-the Last Man part 2

The inspiration for the last post incase you didn't figure it out was actually the way Jules explains the Ringo Honey Bunny situation in Pulp Fiction.

Y is also as fond of Pulp Fiction as I am as you can see.

So where was I, STAR WARS! Why Star Wars for interpreting Y? If you look at the Matrix that is layed out with elements and story beats from all the faiths and philosophies of the world, it is easy to draw parallels and give a work of fiction emotional weight based on the strengths of other writings. Not only does it add weight but depth. So basically whenever I see a young writer try to tell a scifi coming of age story I have to draw as many parallels as possible from Star Wars. As I deduced last post, the Boba Fett of the story wielding the force is simply not a satisfactory ending. Hero does not deserve love, maybe it's because I read the series in a short span of time and not five years, the wounds of her first betrayal and murder still run deep for me.

Another beef I have with the story is the Sisko-ing of Yorrick. (Comic Book Weekness Made-up words: Siskoing is defined(by me) as the process by which a main character shaves his head in order to show maturity and growth. This is of course a reference to Captain Sisko of Deep Space Nine, who shaved his head halfway through the series run amking his character cooler more bad ass and open to debate on who is the better bald Starfleet Captain, but I digress.) So Yorrick at the end of his journey shaves his head, because he is going bald. He looks totally ridiculous to me with a shaved head and I'd imagine the Yorrick from page one of Unmanned would agree. Also the Sisko-ing just makes me draws parallels between Yorrick and Vaughn that I rather not make. As a fiction writer I feel like all my characters are aspects of my own personality, no one character can represent all that is me. So I really hope that Yorrick does not represent all that is Vaughn and he isn't a total surrogate for Vaughn in the story, because it makes me uncomfortable. Also making the trek move with character growth kills the Star Wars parallels and jumbles the message. If Yorrick is Sisko/Quark, the world without men is DS9, 355 is Casidy Yates/Bajoran Beliefs , Dr. Mann is Odo, Hero is the Klingon Empire/Martok/ Worf, Beth #1 is the Prophets, Beth #2 is Jake Sisko?, and Alter is Gol Dukat. Okay this doesn't work either because the Klingon Empire cannot becom the Emmisary of the Prophets.

I think what I'm trying to say is Star Wars is like the christianity of nerds and Star Trek is like the Judaism of nerds. In interpreting science fiction those are the two sources you go to for understanding and deconstructing story. Maybe I'll elaborate on this whole Christianity Vs. Judaism thing but not now.

By the way I'm a Trekkie, oy vey.

6 reasons to accept Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

So I saw the new Indy flick, twice. I had to watch it twice. Not because I loved it the first time but because I didn't love it the first time. I now like the movie after seeing it the second time and proudly accept into the Indiana Jones mythos. I must say that I liked the movie however there are still problems I have with it.

6. Aliens - I like the idea that Indiana Jones can star in any movie a sci-fi flick, an adventure flick, a ww2 flick, etc. So aliens don't really bother me but if you're going to do aliens and Indian Jones you should really go balls out. I expected the third act of this movie to be Indiana Jones versus Aliens or at the very least Indiana Jones against people with superpowers. I mean how cool would it have been to see Indy dodging laser gun blasts, or bullwhipping a giant rancor pitt monster, or even grabbing a lightsaber off the body of a dead ewok.

5. Action Set pieces - All the action was top notch. It was fun, exciting, and original. The big fight in the warehouse filled with boxes from Raiders was awesome but it wasn't the right way to start the movie. I would've much rather have seen the a-bomb test site as the opening teaser. Other than that though the fights were fun especially the flesh eating ants, sword fights, and greaser fights.

4. Plotting - The plotting sucked. I felt like the first half of the movie was trying to sell me that Indy was badass. I know Indy is a bad ass. I 've seen three movies where Indy has been a bad ass, just cause Indy's old doesn't mean that I discount him as some has been. Also there was whole lot of looking back on the previous movies, space in between movies, and characters that I didn't care for. The great thing about Indy movies is that they stand alone and that they are independent adventures. You don't need to know Raiders to enjoy Last Crusade and so on and so forth. This movie seems to be overly referencing Last Crusade and Raiders. I don't need homages to sequels, I own the sequels. The only way this sort of ever looking back would work would've been the whole Shortround main villain scenario which I would have liked to see.

3. Cate Blanchet - She kicked ass. She was a fun villain who was just as good as any Nazi villain we've seen before. I would have liked to see them play more on the politics and villainy of communism. I felt though that they missed oppurtunities with her. Like they hinted at her being a psychic but they never elaborated on it. Indy versus some psychic chick would've been a cool fight but they missed it.

2. Shia Lebouf - Stole the movie his acting is perfect. His intro ala The Wild One was cool and fun. Him as a greaser punk was a perfect compliment to Indy's fedora wearing cool. I would totally love to see "Mutt Jones and the Time Machine of Ghengis Khan". Alot of people have complained about his bits with the monkeys and him getting hit in the nuts, but it works thats the type of levity the movie needs. In fact it needed more comedy.

1. Harrison Ford - Harrison Ford is not the worst actor in this movie. Karen Alllen is. He is the star of the movie so his shitty acting is harder to stand. I don't think that Harrison Ford has given an honest performance since the Fugitive. He spends this entire movie smirking and grunting. In past Indiana Jones movies smirking and grunting showed thoughts behind it. In this movie he looks like a confused old man who Spielberg is asking to put sad faces and happy faces for the shots. I'm sorry Harrison Ford I love you, but could you please try to care about this movie that so many people care about.

Speed Racer VS. Indy 4

Speed Racer is still the best flick I've seen this summer. Harrison Ford just holds this movie down way to much. Speed Racer is till king and his McDonalds toys are way better than the BK Indy toys.

Despite the missed opportunities and shitty acting. It's still and Indy flick and it only gets better with time. The joy of Indy movies is watching them over and over to see your favorite parts and moments. Oh and by the by my favorite line from the movie is "Get that Greaser!!!"

Final Crisis is here!!! And due to memorial day doesn't come out till Thursday.

#1 FINAL CRISIS #1(OF 7) - I am so hyped for this it's not even funny. Every bit of advertisement and previews have been perfect.

#2 BLUE BEETLE #27 - Jaime and Traci sitting in tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G!

#3 GREEN LANTERN #31 - Everyone should be reading this.

#4 NEW AVENGERS #41 - I like what happened last week in Mighty Avengers talking about the Sentry. Hopefully we'll see some New Avengers and not just more stupid skrulls.

#5 TEEN TITANS #59 - This arch isn't bad but it feels like it's moving so slowly.

#6 SHADOWPACT #25 - Usually Shadowpact covers suck. This one however is the best the book has ever produced. Why is Blue Devil there? He lost his powers? I think I'm the only blogger that reads this book.

#7 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #15 - Let's get to know an old school Iron fist. I want to see a cowboy Iron Fist. I wish marvel would take requests.

#8 BATMAN #677 R.I.P. - I liked the first issue even though it left me confused.

#9 MARVEL 1985 #1 (OF 6) - This looks like it might be totally horrible, but the cover is pretty sweet.

#10 HUNTRESS YEAR ONE #2(OF 6) - The first issue totally knocked me on my ass how good it was. I like the religious angle hopefully they can keep it up.

#11 WOLVERINE FIRST CLASS #3 - This book is solid.

#12 STAR TREK YEAR FOUR ENTERPRISE EXPERIMENT #2 - When will I have trek on Tv again?

#13 MS. MARVEL #27 - I like this tie-in but Ms. Marvel as a character seems so totally bland.

#14 SECRET HISTORY THE AUTHORITY JACK HAWKSMOOR #3(OF6) - This is okay but i forgot what happened last issue.

#15 ACTION COMICS #865 - Toyman + battle royale = I'm there.

#16 X-MEN LEGACY #212 - Why is this book called legacy?

#17 JSA CLASSIFIED #38 - I don't want to read another Wildcat story. Can i get a Cyclone story, or lightning, or any of the 20 other JSAers stories.

I'ma big fan of erislaughs over on the youtube. If you are not familiar with her than here is erislaughs introduction of herself.

Why do I like erislaughs?

Because she likes comics, duh. Plus, she ends every vlog with a kiss. She is that elusive unicorn all nerds have heard the myth of, the beautiful girl that actually likes and reads comics (no offense is meant to my fellow female bloggers shelly, sallyp, redheadfangirl, Heidi Meeeley, and brainfreeze. I treasure your viewpoints but it's rare to find girl nerds in my age range). She's a marvel fan, so I can't go totally head over heals for her. None the less I watch all of her youtube vids when they're released. So I've decided to put my erislaughs fandom on display for the entire internets to see. When ever she posts a new vid so shall I encapsulate it in my blog and dissect her reviews alittle. So let us enjoy the wonder of the nerd unicorn herself, erislaughs, gentlemen our feature presentation.
