moment of weakness

Decide to make moment of weakness it's own thing so from now on expect it on fridays.

This week is all about a possible Goonies 2 and Lost Boys 3. Still haven't seen Lost Boys 2 so I'm on the fence till I see it. However, Goonies 2 is what i want almost as much as Ghostbusters 3. This photo should give hope everyone still appears to be pretty good looking for the camera.

I would like to see hollywood really reat this sequel like Indiana Jones and accept the passage of time. The modern day goonies should be just as fun and edgy as the original. A hard pg-13. The Goonies is one of the best films of the 80's mixing fantasy and the feeling of really being a young teen.

Any fellow Goonies fans out there?

Or as a Goonie would say "Hey you guys!"

thE Read Pile - 7/23/08

#1 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #17 - I like the direction Marvel is taking Iron Fist he's really growing as a character.

#2 TRINITY #8 - Trinity is working for me the story feels like it's building to something real and the characters seem to be moving toward the same place.

#3 BRAVE AND THE BOLD #15 - Nightwing and Hawkman not the most excited team up but let's see what type of chemistry they produce.

#4 GREEN LANTERN CORPS #26 - This book wraps up the Mongul arch which is pretty good.

#5  JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #23 - JLA needs to step it up. Cool cover though.

#6 TWO FACE: YEAR ONE #1(OF 2) - With all the Batman energy in the air how could I not pick up a book about my favorite bat-foe.

#7 JOKER'S ASYLUM: SCARECROW #1 - These Joker Asylum's have been hit or miss, hopefully this one will hit.

#8 NEW AVENGERS #43 - Secret Invasion sucks and takes forever and has the worst flow of any story ever.

#9 SUPERMAN #678 - First issue was good so I'm still on board.

#10 WOLVERINE FIRST CLASS #5 - Wolverine in Alpha Flight sounds like fun.

#11 X-MEN LEGACY #214 - The end of last issue was great tease at Mr. Sinister/ Prof. X. This is the worst book I read but the next issue always seems like it's going to improve.

#12 AMBUSH BUG: YEAR NONE #1(OF 6) - Never read an Ambush bug comic so here is my first taste.

moment of weakness

This variant of Immortal Iron Fist #17 is to cool not to show off.

thE Read Pile - 7/16/08

My apologies for not being around but this week. We are going to talk millar, have 3 movie reviews, and have multiple pre-post Batman blogs.

#1 MARVEL 1985 #3(OF 6) - Love this series Millar is really making me happy. I will talk about him more this week.

#2 FINAL CRISIS ROGUE'S REVENGE #1(OF 3) - Johns is god.

#3 MIGHTY AVENGERS #16 - meh.

#4 TRINITY #7 - This series is working for me even the Tarot back ups.

#5 TINY TITANS #6 - This series is perfect for toilet reading.

#6 JOKER'S ASYLUM POISON IVY #1 - I'm not loving these Joker Asylum as much as I should.

#7 DC WILDSTORM DREAMWAR #4 (OF 6) -  This is  a pretty dumb series I think I'm dropping it,

#8 TANGENT SUPERMAN'S REIGN #5( OF 12) - This series is really poorly planned. This series should be an event. You shouldn't schedule this at the same time as Final Crisis when is this supposed to be happening?

moment of weekness

I'm hyped about The Dark Knight a great deal of my excitement is to see Ledger's performance. So see how his co-workers talk about him.

Now over here at the Weekness we love the 1987 Fred Dekker classic Monster Squad and really hope the Rob Cohen produced remake never-ever gets made

thE Read Pile - 7/09/08

I need to spend less money on comics. For real.

#1 BOOSTER GOLD #1,000,000 - I gave my brother Sam the issues up to this one and he has no knowledge of DC history and he loved it. Thats how good this series is.

#2 GREEN ARROW BLACK CANARY #10 - I like the book but I want this story line to wrap up. So we can see some Deathstorke or some of Green Arrow's new married status quo.

#3 JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #17 - Wow It's been 17 issues. Alot has happened yet nothing has happened. Wierd.

#4 FINAL CRISIS REQUIEM #1 - Morrison is sucking hard. The Martian still hasn't gotten his due and this cover is crap.

#5 SECRET INVASION #4 - This series is sucking.

#6 TRINITY #6 - I'm really negative. I stille haven't read issue 4 or 5 but I still like this book. I had no clue it would be better than Final Crisis.

# 7 ACTION COMICS #867 -Johns is the best. Last issue was fantastic jump on this book.

#8 CAPTAIN AMERICA WHITE #0 - Heard good things about this.

#9 HUNTRESS YEAR ONE #5 (OF 6) - This series is actually good. Great art, quality plotting, and story telling.

#10 ULTIMATE ORIGINS #2(OF 5) - This is the first ultimate book i've ever read. I'm confused.

#11 YOUNG X-MEN #4 - This is sucking. I'm going to drop it.

#12 LAST DEFENDERS #5(OF 6) - Meh.

#13 IRON MAN LEGACY OF DOOM #4(OF 4) - I'm really not happy with the books this week. People write doom wrong in this.

#14 JOKER'S AYLUM THE PENGUIN #1 - The first one was okay. The art grew on you but Joker not killing people feels wrong.

#15 DETECTIVE COMICS #846 RIP - I don't know if I'm picking this up if it'll help me understand RIP I will.

moment of weakness

THE Read Pile - 7/02/08

Huge week my wallet  mourns.

#1 ALL NEW ATOM #25 - This book is ending and it's a shame because this character is great. I hope he gets a JLA roster spot.

#2 BLUE BEETLE #28 - I hope this book does not go the way the Atom does this character is gold if someone who reads this blog isn't reading this comic you should be a shamed and you're really missing out.

#3 DYNAMO 5 #14 - I love this book. It's original and fun. I highly recommend it for all readers.

#4 AVENGERS INVADERS #3(OF 12) - I like the premise of this issue and can't wait to see which Namor wins my money os on the young one.

#5 WAR THAT TIME FORGOT #3(OF 12) - I like this book it has me a little confused but it feels like lost but more sci-fi.

#6 TRINITY #5 - They're not disappointing.

#7 BATMAN #678 RIP - I don't understand what's happening.

#8 STAR TREK YEAR FOUR ENTERPRISE EXPERIMENT #3 - I like this comic the art is great and the story is solid.

#9 JOKER'S ASYLUM THE JOKER #1 - I have recently been in a Batman mood reading all his villains wikipedia entries and watching every bit of dark knight footage that is out there I am happy this book is coming out.

#10 JSA CLASSIFIED #39 - Meh.

#11 HELLBOY THE CROOKED MAN#1 (OF 3) - I like Hellboy stories don't love them but they pass the time well enough. I'm hyped for the Hellboy flick though.

#12 STAR TREK MIRROR IMAGES #1 - Don't know what tot expect  but I'll buy it on name alone.

#13 HOUSE OF MYSTERY #3 - This book is weird but I'll give it six issues before I make a call to keep or drop.

#14  HUNTRESS YEAR ONE #4 (OF 6) - I like this book it's really good and under the radar one of the best Year One's they've done. Way better that the Green Arrow at least.

#15 JONAH HEX #33 - Darwyn Cooke's story. I am happy.

#16 TOR #3 (OF 6) - I'm not up to date on this mini I'm picking it up and we'll blow through it when I have them all.

#17 SECRET HISTORY THE AUTHORITY HAWKSMOOR #4 (OF 6) - I am behond on this to but I'm not happy with the books quality or wordy title.

#18 DC UNIVERSE SPECIAL REIGN IN HELL 80 PAGE GIANT - Let's give this the old college try.

moment of weakness

I found this on the youtubes on my quest for info on The Dark Knight. This would totally work and I'd totally buy it and dig it. These are pics of what Harley could look like as a counterpart to Nolan's Joker. I love the Diamond tattoo and multicolored hair.  Also this fan vid of the Battle of the Batmen is genius and really well done, although I wish they would've thrown in a little Adam West.

thE READ PILE - 6/25/08

#1 FINAL CRISIS #2(OF 7) - I'm excited but I feel like I'm missing panels when I read a Morrison book.

#2 GREEN LANTERN #32 - This is the best story line of the summer.

#3 MIGHTY AVENGERS #15 - Pym's abduction can't wait to see what they pull out of their ass.

#4 NEW AVENGERS #42 - So they're taking the wayback machine to New Avengers #1. I wonder how the Spiderman One More Day retcon will be addressed.

#5 MARVEL 1985 #2(OF 6) - This is a cool book but it would have been better with real photography or if it was drawn by Alex Ross.

#6 TEEN TITANS #60 - Clock King is pretty cool but I don't like the way that this is tying into Final Crisis.

#7 TRINITY #4 - This is actually good and I love the way they're doing triple covers.

#8 X-MEN LEGACY #213 - Gambit is my favorite X- character. If this book is going to give me him than it's on my pull list.

#9 WOLVERINE FIRST CLASS #4 - Don't no if I like all this Wundagore stuff but I like the art,

#10 SECRET INVASION RUNAWAYS YOUNG AVENGERS #1(OF 3) - Let's see how the kids are gonna fair in New York fighting and army of Super Skrulls.

#11 PROJECT SUPERPOWERS #4(OF 7) - This series feels like its moving at a snails pace and there is no villain as far as I can tell.

#12 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #16 - Meh.

#13 MS MARVEL #28 - Double meh.

#14 SUPERMAN #677 - I don't usually like Robinson but I'm ready to change my mind.

#15 MYTHOS CAPTAIN AMERICA - I picked up a couple of these mythos books before and I like them. They are repetitive but I like to see new artists take on the origin. Also this cover just looks neat for some reason.

#16 THE MAN WITH NO NAME #2 - Didn't like the first issue. This is it's last chance to impress me before I drop it.

moment of weakness

This weeks moment is more sad than geeky. A comedy legend has died as I'm sure you've heard. George Carlin and his comedy means alot to me. Some of my favorite memories with my family are watching his stand up on tv and laughing together. Carlin was a god. He never grew old or stale and his observations on american culture were always spot on provocative and insightful. Carlin in my book is the greatest philosopher of the 20th century. I send my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fans. His comedy really meant alot to me. Usually when old celebrities die I'm not affected, but this time I am. Carlin is the gold standard of smart comedy and no one will ever replace him and there will never be another. Thank you Mr. Carlin for affecting my life and making me smile.

the read pile - 6/04/08

Okay so I'm pissed some how there were problems with Young X-men #2. I gotta think this over.

#1 KICK ASS #3 - It's felt like an eternity since I read issue 2 I wish they'd stop turning this into a movie and start turning it into a comic.

#2 TRINITY #1 - Terrible cover, it looks like fan art.

#3 SECRET INVASION #3(OF 8) - Please let something cool happen, that will advance the plot in a relevant way.

#4 JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #16 - The twist in the last issue really reinvigorated this book for me. I have faith in Gog, I mean Geoff.

#5 ALL NEW ATOM #24 - Remender's got nards...nuff' said.

#6 AVENGERS INVADERS #2(OF 12) - Love the cover. Last issue was just okay though, let's see if we can get some plot this issue.

#7 WAR THAT TIME FORGOT #2 - I liked the first issue although it left me a little confused.

#8 BATMAN DEATH MASK #3(OF 4) - I am loving this. I hope some other characters get the same sort of manga treatment. I could see the Blue Beetle working well in this format.

#9 JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #46 - Green Lanterns all up in the cover. I'm hyped.

#10 HOUSE OF MYSTERY #2 - The first issue was crazy and disgusting. If I understand this issue I might be in it for the long haul but I suspect this book is to smart for me.

#11 JONAH HEX #32 - Meh.

#12 ULTIMATE ORIGINS #1(OF 5) - The ads totally sold me on this. I've never read an Ultimate book and am not a big fan of the universe as an outsider, but I'll give this the old college try.

#13 TOR #2(OF 6) - I liked the first issue it was wierd but this book maybe to dark and contemplative for me.

#14 YOUNG X-MEN #2-3 - I don't know what's going on. I'll give you more info when I have the situation under control.

#15 MARVEL SPOTLIGHT SECRET INVASION - These spotlights are a nice waste of money.

moment OF weakness

So everyone has been talking about Final Crisis and I've been reading them.

the read pile - 5/29/08

Final Crisis is here!!! And due to memorial day doesn't come out till Thursday.

#1 FINAL CRISIS #1(OF 7) - I am so hyped for this it's not even funny. Every bit of advertisement and previews have been perfect.

#2 BLUE BEETLE #27 - Jaime and Traci sitting in tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G!

#3 GREEN LANTERN #31 - Everyone should be reading this.

#4 NEW AVENGERS #41 - I like what happened last week in Mighty Avengers talking about the Sentry. Hopefully we'll see some New Avengers and not just more stupid skrulls.

#5 TEEN TITANS #59 - This arch isn't bad but it feels like it's moving so slowly.

#6 SHADOWPACT #25 - Usually Shadowpact covers suck. This one however is the best the book has ever produced. Why is Blue Devil there? He lost his powers? I think I'm the only blogger that reads this book.

#7 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #15 - Let's get to know an old school Iron fist. I want to see a cowboy Iron Fist. I wish marvel would take requests.

#8 BATMAN #677 R.I.P. - I liked the first issue even though it left me confused.

#9 MARVEL 1985 #1 (OF 6) - This looks like it might be totally horrible, but the cover is pretty sweet.

#10 HUNTRESS YEAR ONE #2(OF 6) - The first issue totally knocked me on my ass how good it was. I like the religious angle hopefully they can keep it up.

#11 WOLVERINE FIRST CLASS #3 - This book is solid.

#12 STAR TREK YEAR FOUR ENTERPRISE EXPERIMENT #2 - When will I have trek on Tv again?

#13 MS. MARVEL #27 - I like this tie-in but Ms. Marvel as a character seems so totally bland.

#14 SECRET HISTORY THE AUTHORITY JACK HAWKSMOOR #3(OF6) - This is okay but i forgot what happened last issue.

#15 ACTION COMICS #865 - Toyman + battle royale = I'm there.

#16 X-MEN LEGACY #212 - Why is this book called legacy?

#17 JSA CLASSIFIED #38 - I don't want to read another Wildcat story. Can i get a Cyclone story, or lightning, or any of the 20 other JSAers stories.

MOMENT OF WEAKNESS

I have begat another blogger go on and say hi to him. Over at comicbookish

the read pile -5/21/08

Good sized week, little bit of the usual and some new stuff.

#1 JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #21 - I am very hyped about Final Crisis the sketchbook was really cool and I love all the design work so far.

#2 JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #15 - There's supposed to be a big throw down in this issue. So it's time to to see what Alan Scott has up his sleeve.

#3 DYNAMO 5 #13 - This might be the most consistently good comic I read I have to turn this comic onto other people.

#4 X-MEN DIVIDED WE STAND #2 (OF 2) - A chance to see what Noriko is doing, i'm excited.

#5 DC WILDSTORM DREAMWAR #2(OF 6) - Last issue was a bit of, meh. This issue better have some plot developing.

#6 BRAVE AND THE BOLD #13 - Batman and Jay Garrick teaming up doesn't light the world on fire for me.

#7 MIGHTY AVENGERS #14 - I don't like these skrull covers anymore. I want the cover of a comic to reflect the story inside.

#8 COUNTDOWN TO MYSTERY #8(OF 8) - This series is the best thing that has come out of countdown but eight issues is to long. This would've worked in six.

#9 STAR TREK ASSIGNMENT EARTH #1 - Give me Trek. Trek is life.

#10 DC SPECIAL SYBORG #1(OF5) - I'd love to see Cyborg on his own kicking ass, Ithink this is my only opportunity.

#11 TANGENT SUPERMAN'S REIGN #3(OF12) - Ooh, tangent Batman.

#12 INDIAN JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL #1 - Time to start preparing for Indy's return. Gonna watch the movies this week also.

MOMENT OF WEAKNESS

This movie has me giddy and the new posters are straight up bad ass! Don't wake the BABY!

Is anyone else humming the Indy theme right now?

Monday, May 12, 2008

THe REAd PILe - 5/14/08

Another big week my wallet is hurting. My heart is happy though.

#1 BOOSTER GOLD #9 - The JLI is in this issue. As soon as the summer movie season ends I'm going to get the TPB's of JLI. I like them to much to have not read them.

#2 THE TWELVE  #5(OF 12) - The Witness looks super cool in this cover. I feel like this book hasn't given me a clear direction yet shouldn't the plot have started yet. Who is the bad guy?

#3 GREEN ARROW BLACK CANRY #8 - Although I totally called the Ra's Al Ghul reveal. I want to see this book wrap up this thread and start a new fresh one. Maybe a little Deathstroke or Constantine Drakon next.

#4 TITANS #2 - Meh.

#5 IRON MAN LEGACY OF DOOM #2(OF 4) - I'm liking this book it has avery classic Iron Man quality. The art is superb, and the writing thus far is solid.

#6 GREEN LANTERN CORPS #24 - Mongul is coming off pretty cool, but I wonder how or if this will play into Final Crisis.

#7 X-MEN ORIGIN COLOSSUS ONE SHOT - Colossus has always been one of my favorite X-men and I think the current incarnation of him is totally a skrull. So hopefully this non-skrull colossus will be cool.

#8 SECRET INVASION FANTASTIC FOUR #1(OF 3) - Not sure if I'm going to stick with this, but it's three little issues so how bad can it get.

#9 LAST DEFENDERS #3(OF 6) - This book has me entertained even though I'm totally clueless about Defender's history, Nighthawk, and the big bad ominous villain.

#10 BATMAN #676 RIP -  DC Universe 0 and the interview Pulp Secret had with Morrison sold me on this book. I'll give it three issues before I make a judgement on whether it sucks or not as I'm not really a big Morrison fan. Also the Alex Ross cover is totally rad and I want it as a poster.

#11 SUPERMAN #676 - An Alex Ross Solomon Grundy cover I am so there.

#12 X-MEN LEGACY #211 - I remember vaguely writing about how I'm onboard this book, but with fifteen books on my pull list this week this book seems perfect for dropping.

#13 PROJECT SUPERPOWERS #3(OF 7) - I'm not enjoying the story here it's slow and where I'll enjoy slow story telling in Justice with character's I love and think are cool. I don't think i can stand it with two bit has been characters.

#14 TINY TITANS #4 - I was gonna drop this but the disco cover hooked me. Fanklin Richards ain't got nothing on the Tiny Titans.

#15 HUNTRESS YEAR ONE #1 (OF 6) - Might drop this if it sticks. I'm not a big Huntress fan but if they can make her as cool as she was on JLU I might be happy.

#16 FINAL CRISIS SKETCHBOOK - Pretty pictures.

#17 MARVEL SPOTLIGHT HULK - Haven't finished the Iron Man one yet, but this is great bathroom reading.

MOMENT OF WEAKNESS

I'm not a big fan of Chris's Invincible Super Blog simply because I feel it is to monstrously good and bigger than me. However he seems to like Speed Racer as much as me so he's okay in my book. Also I forgot to talk about how cool the tracks were in Speed Racer the film has a very Mario Kart style race feel which is suer cool. Go see Speed Racer!

I decided to drop Zorro it's simply to lame for me. When will they release a Speed Racer comic? IDW I'm looking at you?

the read PILE - 5/7/08

This is a huge week and this was pretty hard list to itemize so here's my best shot.

#1 THE WAR THAT TIME FORGOT #1 (OF 12) - With such a huge list it was hard to choose a number one, so I went with the dark horse. This book looks really interesting. The title is great, and army guys versus dinosaurs will always get me. If this book has killer robots it may take the number one spot again.

#2A MIGHTY AVENGERS #13 SI - I'm not sure whether i should read Secret Invasion first or this. Since this is what Fury has been doing since befor Secret Invasion I'm going to guess it's this one. I really loved last issue with him. He came a cross as a total badass. Here's hoping the badass-ness continues.

#2B SECRET INVASION #2(OF 8)  SI - I liked issue 1 despite it being all set up. Let's start setting up the plot line and fighting some Skrulls.

#3  AVENGERS INVADERS #1(OF 12) - Not sure how this is going to fit in with Secret Invasion, but if Alex Ross is involved I'm pretty much on board.

#4 BATMAN DEATH MASK #2(OF 4) - I really enjoyed the first issue. I especially liked the way it clued readers in on the differences in manga. I think after this series is concluded I'll be more comfortable picking up a manga book. Kudos to DC.

#5 DYNAMO 5 ANUAL #1 - The Dynamo 5 status quo has been altered. I'm curious to how the team will cope with out there base and their leadership. Oh yeah and the cover is straight up bad ass!

#6 MAN WITH NO NAME #1 - I love westerns, I also love Sergio Leone, and I also love comics. So this seems like a perfect mash up made for me. I hope they attempt to copy Leone's cinematic style.

#7 LOGAN #3 (OF 3) - Vaughn is a pimp. I'll have my review of Y the last man up soon, promise. Also Nick I'll return your copies soon also. Thanks.

#8 JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #45 - Mary Marvel and Booster Gold have to save the day. Booster has me happy, Mary not so much.

#9 ACTION COMICS ANNUAL #11 - Meh.

#10 NIGHTWING #144 - Read the last issue on whim. I'm checking out this one. Glad to see Rags is drawing it I love that guy.

#11 COUNTDOWN TO MYSTERY #7(OF8) - I was telling my bro about this new version of Doctor Fate and it made me realize how cool it was. Wow.

#12 IRON MAN VIVA LAS VEGAS #1 (OF 4) - Vegas, baby vegas! Iron man movie was superb, I hope tony hooks up with a bunch of chicks and shows his coolness in this book. I know Favreau can pull it off. Also I'd love to see Favreau's take on Green Arrow, anyone else?

#13 GEMINI #1(OF 5) - I love Faerber. I'm pretty much onboard anything he does now. Planning on picking up Noble Causes off of Amazon soon. If you're going to skip this book give it a shot. I'm saying this with out reading it yet, but Faerber is really good with these concept comics.

#14 JONAH HEX #31 - I think this maybe the last issue I pick up. I think I'm either going to switch to a subscription or collect in TPB to save alittle cash on it. the thing about it is I like the comic I generally enjoy it, but I'm never excited it's on stands. It's just there.

#15 ALL NEW ATOM #23 - Damn you Remender you are making me want to drop this book. Should I drop it?

#16 HOUSE OF MYSTERY #1 - The blurb sold me on it. This should be an interesting trippy read.

#17 RANN THANAGAR HOLY WAR #1(OF 8) - I don't like the Rann Thanagar stuff that's been down as of late, didn't enjoy it in IC, or in Countdown to Adventure. I'm going to try out the first issue but if something doesn't work I will drop it and hope they review in over on spoilt

#18 TOR #1(OF 6) - I know next to nothing about Tor. The ads don't have me all that interested but for the sake of this blog I'm going to check it out.

#19 DC UNIVERSE SPECIAL JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA - I greatly enjoyed my introduction to Libra in DC universe 0. So I'm pleased to learn more about him here.

MOMENT OF WEAKNESS

I got a doozy this week to sort of diverging opinions on countdown. Snell has an amazing post breaking down and ripping into Countdown. I pretty much agree with everything he says. So check it out.

Then Kon-el over at the Comic boards has an interesting theory on Countdown calling it a long existentialist metaphor.
